 Chapter Seven: Little Girl

Searching outside the building, there was no sign of the little girl.  She was gone.  I didn’t know how to describe her.  She had childlike curls bobbing around her shoulders, her hair a shade of dark red that seemed to be one of a kind.  Her eyes were wide and twinkled with girlhood.  I am confused… What’s going on with my life?  Did I just imagine a little girl?

            I’m so deeply confused.

Do I ever get a break? I questioned, internally.

I looked around once again and blinked, seeing a flash at the corner of my eye.  I spun around to come face to face to Kam and my fist making contact to his nose.  Kam didn’t move for a second and shook his head like a dog after a bath, trying to shake the water off himself, “You have an arm, woman.”

My jaw dropped and I felt something rise in me, a wave of emotions.  Guilt ran to amusement and I found myself trying to keep a smile off my face.  I patted his back and a small laugh escaped, “Kam, a-are you okay?”

He looked up, cupping his face and looked at me, accusingly, “You find this funny, don’t you?”

“No, no, no,” I said, quickly and another laugh escaped while I tried to comfort him, “Okay, yeah, a little, I’m sorry, are you okay?"

My emotions still intact I found myself giggling and trying to keep Kam still as he paced across the yard and back.  He looked at me, shaking once again, “How are you finding this funny?”

I covered my mouth and tried to speak straight-forward, “I don’t know.  It kind of just is.”

He made a face and raised his head, giving me a good look up his nose.  It didn’t really stop me from the giggle-fit.  He coughed, “Am I bleeding?”

“No,” I shook my head, quickly, patting his arm, “I’m sorry, Kam.”

            He nodded, “Ouch."

“You broke my phone and I broke your nose.  We’re equal, I think,” I muttered.  He gave me a face which caused me to just to find it all the bit more funny.

            “Yeah, emotionless,” he mumbled, sarcastically.

“I found the situation all too funny,” I finally found myself calming down and I patted his blond hair, “I’m sorry, are you okay?”

“Kiss it,” he said, thrusting his face close to mine.

“I take it back,” I said, biting my lip.

“You’re not sorry?” he questioned, looking offended and took a step back but I took a step close and pinched his nose.

“No, your nose is bleeding,” I said, helping lean his head back.  He made some funny noises, trying to keep the oozing blood to stay inside his skull.  I lead him into my home and made him sit down at a table.  I walked across the kitchen and scanned the room for tissues.  I finally just settled for some paper napkins that were in a secluded cupboard which held the picnic supplies, which we never used.  Leona sometimes used them when she wanted to have a barbeque with her associates from the police department but the only one that actually got on really well with me was Nicholas.  And he did at the department was bring in the coffee and sit down by his father, the sheriff.  He just got out of the police academy and he thinks an exciting day of work is finding out that he got the last custard filled donut.  He also had a bit of a crush on Leona, even if she has a boyfriend.
