It was her tenth birthday. Living with her older sister and her father in a beat up brick house and a tiny barn in the back yard.
The whole house, inside and out, was decorated with the over the top decorations. Red, green, and her favorite color, yellow, ribbons and balloons filled in every tight space that was visible to the naked eye.
The children have eaten the vanilla cake, opened the presents, and they are finally playing games. There wasn't that many kids there at Jane's house anyhow, but only her close friends; like, Brianna, Kyle, and Hannah. The four of them were playing hide and seek.
But it was hard to find Jane when she was located secretly within the house. Brianna swore that she saw her in the kitchen when Kyle promised that Jane was in the living room.
Jane's sister, Carolena, noticed this and begged her father to end the party. Indeed, the party was ended short when Jane's sister and father sat her down in the living room to have the talk.
"Jane, do you know what your mum did for a living?" Her father asked softly. Jane sat on the couch, eating Cheetos and curiously listening to what her father says.
She shook her head.
"We live in a world of heroes now. Cops, firefighters, and the governments all over the world has accepted superheroes into society as gods or upper class. And your mother was one of those superheroes. And your sister and I fear that you may have your mother's powers." He stated quietly.
Jane stopped eating her Cheetos and stared wide eyed, trying to process the information in her head. Her hand fell to her lap, staining her white dress with orange Cheetos flavor.
"What? What! I have superpowers!! Cool. What type of powers do I have or did mom have?" Jane excitedly asked.
Carolena was shocked, but mainly annoyed that her sister is responsible for her powers. She is only seven years older than Jane, and she was close to her mother. But after a mugging went wrong and her mother got caught in the middle and couldn't get away in time.
"She had the ability to walk through walls, buildings, and even people. But you only show a small level of your powers so you have a while to go." Her father said, standing up to ruffle Jane's black thick curls. He marched out of the living room and Carolena stormed into her room, both of them leaving Jane alone and to jump for joy.
But that was two years ago. Jane has improved on her powers any less than when she was ten, and now, at the age of twelve her birthday edges around the corner once more.
Indeed, she does worry and ponder when her powers will fully come to her and she can start her training. But it still hasn't come in the last two years.

I told you that it would be short, if I didn't then I'll tell ya now, IT'S GUNNA BE SHORT CHAPTERS. It's just something to keep me going and not be super stressed as I am nowadays. 543 words, wow. Normally I write like 5,000+ and still try to slam it all together.
