Her three best friends haven't been talking to her lately since yesterday when they discussed her party. She knew that they were planning it for her and would be busy but not too busy to be avoiding her.

"Hey Jane." Lucy said from behind her. Her long, thin blonde hair was flawless like she was Fabio's child or a runner up for a Maybelline commercial. Her big, brown sugar eyes looked too big for her face or maybe her face was too small for her eyes. Either way.

"Hey Lucy! How are you?! You look beautiful today. Did you hear about Britney trying to go after Duke?! No?" Jane fired off in her face. She couldn't help it, she wanted someone to talk to. And with her three best friends busy making her party, they didn't even show up to school, Jane was left alone today.

"Thank you, I'm great by the way. And no, I did not hear about the Britney thing until now." She said the last part like she wanted to spit out lava with her words. To be fair, she doesn't fancy Britney in any way, shape, or form.

"Well, it was just a rumor floating around." Jane waved her hand in the air.

Across the room, the volleyball team giggled and squealed happily about their invitations to Jane's party. In fact, Brianna was walking around the school handing out the invites secretly, telling each person she meets to keep it on the down low.

The cards was creatively sketched on the back of a black plastic masquerade mask with the party's details:

The volleyball team desperately wanted to run up to Jane and chat away about her party, but they contained themselves long enough for the bell to dismiss the children.

"Hey Jane? Can I walk with you?" Lucy asked. She clenched her books to her flat chest as her brown sugar eyes looked determined.

"Sure!" Jane interlocked her arm through Lucy's and skipped out of the school. The sun blinded the kids eyes but didn't last long, for school getting out at 12:30 was a perfect time for Jane.

"Can I ask you something?" Lucy peeped lightly. Jane turned to face her and smiled. Jane nodded and released her link with the blond.

"Do you think the volleyball team will make it to championship game if we lose to Kingston Elementary school? We always lose to them. Every year." She complained sadly.

For Jane, she doesn't do sports. The last thing she wants was to even talk about it. But for Lucy, volleyball was her whole life and it meant so much to her; even boys and grades.

"Definitely! Put your heart, soul, and spirit into it! Never give up, find the other teams weakness and use it to your advantage." Jane said confidently. Lucy had a huge smile on her face, glad to hear such speech worthy confidence boast.

"Thanks Jane. That means a lot coming from you." She said kindly.

"What does that mean?" Jane stopped walked and stood still on the sidewalk. She had her hands on her hips, body leaned forward and was ready to snap.

"Well, you always say what's on your mind and you're so outgoing." Lucy smiled and turn to keep walking.

Jane was taken back from that compliment. She expected something like; thanks, I know you're just saying that. Or even along the line of; well, I still think we will lose, you weren't much help. I should've asked someone else. But Jane forgets that Lucy was down to earth and gentle with other people, even if they were mean to her.

Jane sprinted to catch up to Lucy, out of breath and panting like a dog in the middle of summer. Lucy giggled, smiled and looked at her phone. A text popped up from Brianna saying;

Thank you for hanging out with Jane today. She's not causing trouble, is she?! Any who, I hope you can deal with her. We are still making her party work out. Laterr.

Lucy put her phone away, smiling, and turned back to Jane she she heard her ask a question.

"Do you want to come over to my house?" Jane asked. She gave the best puppy dog eyes that she could with her neon green eyes.

"Sure! Let me call my dad."
