"I still can't believe that Ashton Willing was your partner!" Emma whispered a soft yell.
"You're so lucky Liz." Taylor grumbled under her breath. She was a tiny, skinny kid. Wired blonde hair and huge hazel eyes. She was Elizabeth's cousin, living on the other side of town near the river.
"Look, I'm not interested in boys right now. What I am interested in is..." Elizabeth wanted to say, 'figuring a way to control my powers.' But saying that would get her hunted down by reporters or worst, Candice Jones.
"What? Don't leave us in suspense? What are you interested in?! Ashton? Roy? Hugo?" Emma fired off in her best friend's face.
Elizabeth reared her head back and blinked away her stupidity. She had to think of an excuse, and fast. The only thing that was on her mind was her powers and famous Superheroes. She diverted her blue eyes away from her friends to look around the gigantic library around her and the quiet students buzzing around.
"My studies! Yup, my studies. I'm almost failing my classes and I was embarrassed to say anything because I wasn't as intelligent as my best friends." She bragged and lied. She wasn't failing at all.
Taylor and Emma's cheeks burned red by her compliment and giggled lightly until they looked away. Elizabeth sighed in relief and glanced at the huge clock by the front of the library; five minutes to twelve.
"I have to go girls. My next class is on the other side of the school and it's on the third floor. I mustn't be late." Liz gathered her books and papers, shoving it halfway in her bag and carrying the rest.
"Bye."
"Later Liz."
She fumbled around awhile until she was near the door and was so focused on not dropping anything that she ran into someone. She turned around, glaring as some of her papers dropped, that Ashton seemed a little taken back.
"Don't kill me now with your blue daggers." He held his hands up in the air, backing away a bit before coming back into her bubble.
"Sorry, I'm in a bit of a hurry." Elizabeth latched onto her fallen papers and sprinted out the door. She could care less about a handsome boy, nonetheless, Ashton Willing.
"Wait! Liz, you dropped your..." He yelled, "Paper." He whispered when the librarian hushed him. He flipped it over and looked down at it.
It was a scribble drawing of Elizabeth flying in the sky, with a cape behind her and a mask over her eyes. Her frizzy hair was perfectly accurate, and her initials, LG, was on the back of the cape.
Ashton snickered and folded the paper into his pocket. He thought of giving it back to her some other day, or even tomorrow and talk to her about it.
Poor Liz. She was oblivious to her lost drawing. She better pray and pray that Ashton won't start investigating her; but her main concern was getting to class. Which she got there before the bell rang.
She sighed and started to reorganize her messy area. She ignored the kids coming in and out of the class, she didn't even notice Hugo Sloutch sit in front of her. He turned around to wonder what Liz was doing and why she was making such a racket.
"Whatcha doin'?" He asked in his thick accent. His dark, chocolate brown hair glimmered light natural highlights. His green eyes shimmered bright and curiously. And his fair body and skin made him seem like a famous celebrity.
"Hmm." Was all she managed to respond. Hugo shrugged and turned back around in his seat, a tad bit embarrassed and nervous.
The teacher strutted in the room and she looked around with a nasty glare; warning the kids to behave. After a while, the kids caught on and shut up.
After that boring class and a long suffering with her English teacher, she was (along with the rest of the children) released from school to go home. Elizabeth waited outside in the courtyard for Emma to walk home with. After what was nine years to Elizabeth, Emma sprinted up to her and they started to walk home.
"Can I ask you something?" Emma questioned. She looked over at her best friend, hoping the concerned look in her gray eyes would get the truth out of Liz.
"Go for it."
"How come you're not interested in boys? What are you interested in?" Emma whispered. She hoped Liz won't say her powers or anything about Mother Nature.
"My powers."
Emma groaned. She slumped dramatically forward and sighed. "Liz, as your best friend in the entire world, that's the only thing you ever think about. Why not take a break and go after some guys? I've heard that Hugo has a crush on you." Emma wiggled her eyebrows.
"Hmm, no thanks. You know my life will be flipped upside down once the world knows that, you know what." Liz said.
Emma and Elizabeth skipped home, chatting about random stuff like food, homework, boys, animals, clothes, planes, and Liz's powers. Emma offered Liz if she wanted to come over but she declined to work on homework.
After they parted ways, Liz ran home and walked up to her house. She froze when she heard unfamiliar voices boom from the cracked front door.
