She watched Michael sprint to the french doors and grab hold of Brianna's shoulders, turning her so that the two of them could return to the party. Jane ignored them and hoped that she could get herself out of the fountain, for her, it was like being stuck in the wall at her house all over again.
Brianna's white dress with a sweetheart neckline was clearly visible with the shadowy figures behind her at the party. Her long, straightened strawberry blonde hair rested down her back and her red mask twinkled under the lights. Her blue eyes stared at Michael, wondering why he was out here alone.
"Isn't Jane with you? A couple people from the party said they saw her with you." Brianna questioned. She stood her ground and crossed her arms over her chest grumpily.
"Well, she was. But we only talked for a little bit and then she left to go get more food." He nervously chuckled and tried to keep her back facing towards Jane as long as possible.
"But I just came from inside, I'm telling you she's not inside!" Brianna stated clearly, snapping a bit. It was unlike her to lose her temper, she was a relaxed and laid back kid in the whole school.
"And I'm telling you that she's not out here! How about we go look inside together?" Michael said, stepping off and leading her to the door with a hand.
Brianna scoffed and turned on her heel, storming down the stone path and looking around the arched vinery. The closer she got to the fountain, the more nervous Michael grew. He was so scared that his feet couldn't move, he just stayed in his place by the french glass doors.
Brianna, on the other hand, looked around the fountain and the short tree line to find no one in sight. She sighed and fixed her red mask, she was growing frustrated by the second.
"Well, you were right, she wasn't out here. Where did she go?!" Brianna said, striding up the stone path to stand in front on Michael. He looked shocked and upset, if she didn't find Jane stuck in the fountain then where did she go?
"I am? I mean, yeah! I was right, told you. Now let's go inside and look for her!" Michael said loudly, hoping if Jane was close by then she would be able to hear their conversation.
"Don't yell in my hear and gloat just because you were right." Brianna growled. She bolted inside, leaving Michael lost outside.
He grunted and walked inside as well, hoping Jane was okay. He tried to use his powers to find Jane but it was a static blur, like a broken TV screen.
Jane stayed where she was for a few minutes, waiting for silence to engulf her like a warm blanket. And at that, she was shivering, freezing, and dripping wet from the water. When she didn't hear anyone, she slowly started to descend from the tree that she climbed to hide from Brianna.
"Great, not only am I a shinny tomato but also a wet one! This sucks. Worst birthday ever." Jane complained, strolling up to the french glass doors. Once she opened one door, she felt the warm, humid air hug her. She heard the music cloud her ears. She cracked a smile and tried to reach for the stairs without anyone spotting her.
"Jane!" Too late.
She turned around and she saw Hannah approaching her in a trot, Kyle right on her heels smirking.
"Hey, walk with me!" Jane said, turning on her heel to walk up the stairs. Her friends didn't objet but they did follow her. Once they were out of the darkness and walking in brighter lighting, Kyle and Hannah noticed Jane soaking wet.
"Hey Jane, wait up! Why are you wet?" Hannah asked.
"Go for a midnight swim?" Kyle said, wiggling his eyebrows. Jane couldn't see him do it behind his mask, but the tone of his voice said it all for him.
"No! I tripped and fell in the water fountain. I need to change." She bellowed, storming into Brianna's room.
Kyle, Hannah, and Jane froze. They saw Brianna grumbling around her room with Michael sitting on her couch, once the door opened, both of them looked to the door with blank expressions.
"There you are! We need to open your presents and then cut the cake, and then... why are you wet?"
"Long story."
"Anyways, let's go. Everyone out of my room."
The group of kids flowed out of Brianna's room and went downstairs. They cut the cake, Jane opened her gifts, and the DJ played a few more songs. Once the party died down, kids started to leave and the DJ packed up and started to leave; not without his paycheck though. A few kids stayed behind to clean up and possibly take home free food.
'I actually liked my birthday party. Beside my period, getting soaked and finding out about another kid that has powers. But, my friends know how to throw a party.' Jane thought, cleaning up. And by that, she was stuffing her face, not actually cleaning.
