Last Chapter: (Y/n) wakes up to a horrible smell in Tetra's house, and, when she goes outside, an ominous fog (hint hint the fog). Later, she learns that Tetra'a mother has died and that Herm and Tetra's father has been kidnapped. Suddenly, overcome with fear and stress, the child goes into a psychotic break, and when she wakes up, decides to go after Herm and Tetra.
And that brings us to this chapter.
____________
You took a deep breath then approached the door to Tetra's house, and, reminding yourself that no one you had known for life would answer that door, went inside without knocking. It was oddly dark and seemed empty, you noticed, like all the life that had made it a favorite place over the years had been consumed by some dark being. Thankfully, the smell had been removed, but no one was there to say hello and hug you, to get you out of this horrible mood that you had found yourself in. The people who do those things are gone, you thought, reminding yourself of the reason your heart had a gaping hole that now needed to be filled. And they're probably never coming back. However, you couldn't accept that. You had seen her corpse, but your mind still expected Tetra's mother to come up behind you at any moment. You knew that Tetra's father nor Tetra wasn't in this house, and you could see clearly that it was empty, but still you expected him to come down those stairs or come from the bathroom. It hurt.
You glanced back at Vaati, since he had been silent for quite a while (he had become a little more talkative since he popped up in the bed beside you), but he wasn't there. Wondering if he had run off again, you moved towards the doorway, and when you saw him once more, just outside of the threshold, you swore something in front of him had quickly vanished into a puff of smoke. Once it was gone, he whirled to face you, acting a bit too innocent for your liking.
"What? Are they gone?" he asked, referring to Agnan and Vila. "I'd assume they were still here. That smell was quite strong."
"No, they aren't here," you replied, glancing over his shoulder, where you had seen that puff of smoke. "What was that?"
"What was what?" Vaati glanced behind him, too, acting as if he was looking for what you saw. Or was he merely acting? You had only gotten a glimpse; what if you merely imagined it?
"That thing. It disappeared right when I walked out here. It was right in front of your face." You furrowed your brow in confusion. You weren't going mad, right?
He remained firm as he persisted to say that you had imagined it. "I saw no such thing. Perhaps you only imagined it? You seemed rather frightened earlier, and unstable, before you fainted. You merely imagined whatever had frightened you."
Now you were irritated. Why was he trying to lie, even though you had saw that puff of smoke, clear as day? It wasn't natural smoke; the speed at which it disappeared was too fast, and it seemed too dense and black. And he was looking at it as if it he was controlling whatever disappeared with that smoke through his mind or some bizarre thing like that. You knew you weren't imagining things. It was all too clear. Still...what if the mind had that kind of power? You've seen dreams just as clearly before. "All I saw was smoke, you shit. Stop lying," you snapped, mostly frustrated because you were nervous. The way your words shot out of your mouth like throwing knives and the fierce glare you gave him made him wet his lips, and his hands slid under the cloth of his cape as if they were guilty toddlers. For a brief moment, you could see that he was shaken.
Then, he recovered his composure. "Excuse me for not knowing what you saw, brat. I was not informed that I was supposed to be omniscient, and I don't appreciate being called 'shit' for that. You are being paranoid, if that is really all you saw." He now mimicked your glare to wordlessly persuade you to back down. You payed it no mind.
