It was like a twisted charade game. I was incapable of giving them clues and they were oblivious of the situation. I mean, I was keeping all these secrets in front of them, yet I could not utter a single word.

The scenario was this: we were crammed in a private study room in the Coven House with tables full of books with itty bitty texts. A lot of sighs and frustration was dancing in the air just like the dust lingering above our heads.

Bat grunted loudly and before I could predict what he was about to do, he flung a thick book as if it was a light pebble. It crashed against the wall, leaving a hefty dent.

Matt huffed, giving Bat a deathly glare. "Bat. It's the third time you've done this."

Bat pushed out his chair, it screeched heavily. "This sh*t is crazy, man. A True Queen? A Queen of Blood Caves? No book has any records of her. Who the hell is this queen? Who is she to jackass Emerus? Why do we need her and why does Emerus need her to escape?" He brushed his hair back. "I mean what could she have that is so lethal. And how the hell Emerus let her escape?"

"You asked the same question twice." I muttered.

"Some philosophical thoughts, man." Kingsley lifted his head up. He looked at me. "Any ideas?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm just as clueless." Gah, the heat of lies settled on my skin.

"The Queen must have the key because that is the only for him to escape. So we find her, we find the key." Kingsley concluded, closing the book in front of him.

"We need outside help," Bat hatefully pushed the book in front of him. "Call The English Coven or the German's. They got good sources."

My inside's mushed up. "Let's try to calm down, Bat. Please. Do you want something to eat? You can take a break." I suggested with the approved nod of Kingsley.

Matt brightened. "Come on, Bro. I'll buy you some pizza."

Bat muttered under his breath like a little kid but got up, following Matt out the door.

That boy was tension and Matt was the reliever. Because the stress evaporated when he left.

I rubbed my temples, settling on Bat's seat to get closer to  Kingsley. "Don't you want to take a break?" I touched his hand so he stopped taking notes.

He licked his lip, his eyes lingering on my pressed hand. He lifted his blue gaze up, staring at me. I watched them dilate when I touched him. "Do you want a break?"

"Y-yeah. I do. We need a break from this Queen research. We've been crammed in this room like fictional vampires." I shook my head, removing my hand before further heat could travel up me. "These windows are tiny, Scott. Tiny."

Kingsley's mouth lifted up. He pushed his chair back and kicked his feet up the table. "Hmm, Holland. Then what do you suggest we do?"

It was bad but I got the most selfish idea ever. I had to get his off from The Queen topic. Being the team leader and the head of investigation, I had to distract him from finding the truth. Because the truth hurt and it revealed too much of a complicated past.

"Tell you what, I'll let you take me to Stella's house party. We can do a low-key investigation with the suspects and still have fun."

His bottom lip jutted out and it created a plush pout. I tried not to swoon. "Didn't think you enjoyed having fun." He tapped his long fingers on the table and the sound vibrated in my ear.

I turned my eyes away. A person could only take so much hotness.  "You don't know me long enough, then." I murmured.

A silence followed for a second.
