After the night of the attack, the team gathered in the Coven for a meeting with Mr. John Perry. For once, I was glad I wasn't the one breaking the news to him because Kingsley had a lot of talking to do.
"How was the dance?" Bat spoke to me. We had just settled in the room and waiting for the President to show up.
I raised a brow at him. "I didn't go."
He scrunched his face. "Aren't you required to go to school events? Isn't that part of the mission?"
I laughed. "I don't think so. Plus, I had no date."
Matt came in behind me with a singsonged tone. "Of course you had. Scott told me about your many proposals."
I gazed at Kingsley with question. "Are you so obsessed with me that you are talking about me to your friends?" I joked.
He buried his head in a stack of papers as if he was suddenly busy. "I'm not part of your gossip." He mumbled. I think there was a slight blush on his cheek. Ha. Cute.
We didn't have any more time to chitchat because the storm bender has entered the conference room.
"Mr. Perry." We stood up to greet him.
His gray hair has gone whiter in the past couple of days. I couldn't believe how distressed and sunken his eyes looked. I felt a deep sense of remorse for him. I could finally see the stress and heavy duty that was on his shoulders from being the President of the New York Coven. "Please, take a seat, Detectors. Don't waste any time to explain. We have a Coven meeting in few hours that I need to get ready for."
Kingsley unzipped his sports jacket. "Diana take the lead please."
I straightened my back and told Perry about everything from the beginning of Brenda's call to how I ended up taking her to the hospital. I didn't tell him about how she was half human.
Perry's face became even smaller. After I finished talking, it took him minutes to compose himself. "Just give me a second." But not being able to contain himself, he stood up to pace around, soaking up the Hunter attack. Finally, he plopped on the chair. "We cannot tell this to the Cravers."
Kingsley shared a look with the Eddins. "Wait, I don't understand."
Perry's eyes were full of emotions. "We will cause havoc. Especially since I have told everyone that no danger is involved with Jenifer's case. They will lose trust in me. Until we find a solution this needs to be kept a secret."
"But we'll be lying..Cravers need to know how to protect themselves." I stared at him incredulously. "Brenda almost died that night if I wasn't there."
"I know. But they will panic and you know what happens when vampires panic....they cower. We must handle this ourselves and figure the end of this." He turned to Kingsley. "Scott, your time is running out. Find me the killer before I send you off. This goes for all of you. Whatever you need, I will give it to you. But no one can know of this business. Even your family and friends."
"I will make sure Brenda and Jake is quiet." Martin grumbled, his face was in a mean demeanor. "As you wish."
I cannot believe we were putting so many people in danger. I wanted to call Perry out but I knew the topic was closed and sealed. I felt defeated and needed to protect my beliefs.
"Matt and I will need unlimited access to the history of the suspects and the witnesses." Bat said. "Including the Record House."
Perry mumbled under his breath. "We'll worry about that later. Just use whatever you can because it may be a problem to open the House. I cannot do that without the consent of the Council. Because of that, I don't want to put the Coven into a frenzy."
