One week later

Connor sat with both Aubrey and his son at the breakfast table, but something did not feel right with all that was going on. For the past week, Aubrey was not herself, as she seemed distant, not only from Connor but from their son as well.

"CJ, are you done eating your food?" Connor asked his son.

"Yes, daddy," CJ said enthusiastically. Connor was thrilled to see that his son was happy.

"Well, that's good. Now can you go and get your bag? Otherwise, you'll be late for school." Connor informed his son that for the past week CJ had been enrolled in a school, and he loved it.

CJ nodded his head in agreement and ran up the stairs to get his bag. There was a brief silence between Aubrey and Connor, so much so that he was surprised when she spoke ahead of him.

"I can tell that you want to say something, so go ahead and say it," Aubrey told Connor, the entire time not daring to look him in the eyes.

"Well, I feel as though you're not happy being here," Connor told Aubrey, and she rolled her eyes at him.

"Well, you got that right," Aubrey responded, lifting her head and looking right at Connor. Aubrey's answer stunned him, but Connor chose to keep his cool and not let his anger get the better of him.

"Would you mind telling me what it is that you're not happy with?" Connor managed to ask her, hoping that he would get a better answer from her. She rolled her eyes at him and sighed in frustration.

"Can't you see it? Our son does not have a normal life anymore, Connor. With all these things you are getting him, you might end up spoiling him." Aubrey scolded him, but Connor calmly stared at her.

"Oh my bad, are you perhaps referring to that thing you call a house or the fact that my son would've remained uneducated?" If that is what you call normal, then I might as well buy you a ticket back to South Africa while I stay with my son here," Connor informed Aubrey, and he watched Aubrey's eyes widen in shock.

Connor knew that his words were harsh, but he knew that he could not take her negativity any longer.

"Are you saying that I'm a bad mother?" Aubrey asked him. Frustration travelled through the inner parts of Connor as he ran his fingers through his hair. Connor tried holding onto Aubrey, but she slapped his hands away.

"Look, Aubrey, I'm not saying that you're a bad mother. Why don't you just give me a chance? Why are you not giving us a chance?" Connor asked Aubrey as her eyes widened. Hearing Connor say those words brought back the pains of the past.

"I already gave you a chance, and you let me down. I'm not as young and stupid as I was, Connor, and I will not fall for your games," Aubrey told Connor as a tear fell from her eyes. She hated seeing the sweet side of Connor, afraid that he might sweet-talk her and betray her again.

She quickly wiped the tears falling from her eyes and walked away and out of the dining room. Connor stood alone in the dining room, wondering what his next plan of action was, as it was clear to him that Aubrey had still not forgiven him.

It was late afternoon because Aubrey made up her mind to take a walk around the town, getting to know the local vendors and familiar shops around New York City. By the time she arrived home, her son and his father were smartly dressed and waiting for her in the living room.

Aubrey stared at them, not knowing what was going on because both of them were dressed in tailored suits.

"Wow, aren't you two quite gentlemen? And may I ask where you two are going?" Aubrey questioned them.
