Both Aubrey and Connor walked into the house, she ahead of him, rushing to get to her bedroom. He stood in absolute silence, watching carefully as she ran up the stairs and disappeared, until he heard the bang of her door. Connor paced his house, wondering why or who had upset Aubrey like that.
"What the hell?" Connor whispered to himself, not knowing what to do but rather running his fingers through his hair to ease the anger that radiated off him. He looked all around the room, and he was alone in his huge living room.
There was no denying that he had it all—the money and power—but just not the woman of his dreams. He stood in his living room with his hands on his hips, sick and tired of Aubrey blocking him out of her life.
He hated that he had given her more than enough time, and she refused to give their relationship another chance.
Frustrated with her actions, Connor made his way to the entrance of her room. He tried the doorknob, but the door was locked. Connor took a calm breath, for he knew that this was going to get messy. Connor walked into his room, grabbed a spare key from his, walked back to Aubrey's room, and unlocked the door.
He let himself into her room only to find that Aubrey was not in her bed, but he heard sobbing coming from her bathroom. Connor made his way to her bathroom and knocked on the door.
"Go away!" She yelled at him from within the bathroom.
"Aubrey, I'm not leaving until you step out of that bathroom," Connor told her as he patiently waited for her.
After ten minutes, Aubrey appeared from her bathroom. Her eyes were blood red, as though she had cried until she could no longer, and a piece of his heart felt like it had just broken off.
Without thinking, Connor walked up to Aubrey. He wrapped his arms around her, but she pushed him away.
"What do you want, Connor? "Speak fast, because you only have five minutes." She told him, her voice sounding much hoarser than before.
Connor quickly swallowed the lump in his throat and spoke, hoping that this was not going to blow up in his face.
"If I did anything to offend you tonight, I would like to say that from the bottom of my heart, I'm so sorry."
"Sorry? Great, now that you're done apologizing, you may leave my room in peace." Aubrey told him, and this left Connor stunned. He placed both his hands in his pockets, swaying back and forth, trying to calm the anger boiling inside of him.
"Tell me, Aubrey, why do you do what you do?" Connor asked her, and his question made Aubrey raise both her eyebrows.
"I don't get what you're trying to say," she asked Connor.
"I mean, why the hell are you so bitter? I do everything to please you, but you don't appreciate it," Connor told her, his tone holding so much pain that he could not hold it back.
"Then stop trying to please me, Connor; I'm not some kind of sick woman who is emotionally unsecured about herself!"
"Ha-ha. You know that is so ironic because you are that woman. That emotionally unsecured type of woman," Connor told Aubrey, his eyes holding so much hate and anger that had built up over the last month of them being together in New York.
