(One More Chapter left, watch out for Chapter 34)
Aubrey sat in Connor's car in silence, waiting for him to utter a word, but being Connor, he said nothing at all and simply kept his eyes on the road. She looked out the window and watched the scenery fly away, but deep down, she kept wondering what prompted their son to run away. For the life of her, she could not figure out how CJ got to his grandparents' house in the first place.
Having no control over herself, she smiled at herself as she realized that CJ was smart, just like his father.
"Aubrey, when we get to my parent's house, I don't—"
"Don't you worry, Connor; I won't say anything that will scare our son or upset him," Aubrey promised Connor. Aubrey watched as Connor swallowed the gulp in his throat, which all seemed too sexy for her.
She could not quite understand how all these years had passed, but the memories remained with her. Deep down, she always knew the answer: Connor would always be the love of her life. It hurt her to know it and not act on it.
Without another word from Aubrey, Connor started his engine, and he began the long drive to his parents' house. Aubrey, on the other hand, rested her head and shut her eyes. For now, she would rest because worrying over her son had taken a toll on her. Not long after she rested her head, Connor woke her up.
"We are here, Aubrey," Connor informed her, and Aubrey got up.
"Ok, how long did I sleep?" Aubrey asked Connor, and he simply smiled at her.
"Long enough for you to miss that I almost knocked over a cow," Connor informed her, and this shocked Aubrey so much that her jaw dropped.
"You what?" Aubrey asked him in disbelief.
"I'm just kidding with you; relax, but then again, you were never one to be calm, always paranoid and all," Connor teased her, and Aubrey did not find this funny at all. Aubrey watched as Connor stared into her eyes, as if trying to make sense of things.
"What happened to us? We used to be so free, so happy, and now we can barely sit in the same room without trying to kill one another," Connor told her, and this made Aubrey wonder as she sat in the passenger seat, refusing to acknowledge that Connor was completely right about what he had said.
"I guess we just drifted apart, Connor." A loud laugh escaped from Connor, and Aubrey could not understand why he was laughing.
"I seriously cannot believe this; I cannot believe you. How can you insist on us drifting apart when you know very well that a single touch from me sends you into an emotional portal, and you do the same to me?" Connor exploded into a fit of rage as he explained to Aubrey what was on his mind.
"That's enough, Connor!" Aubrey yelled at him; the words he said were all true, and Aubrey could not stand that Connor was right about it.
"No, it is not enough, Aubrey! I have been trying to please you, but you are so damn stubborn, and you are allowing your pride to get in the way of us," Connor told Aubrey, but Aubrey crossed her hands over her chest and huffed.
"So, what are you going to do about it, Connor?" Aubrey asked him, looking into his eyes as though she were daring him.
Connor ran his fingers through his hair, parked the car on the side of a road, and turned off the engine. He looked deep into Aubrey's eyes with passion in his eyes.
"What am I going to do? I'm going to make love to you in this car; I'm going to rip every piece of clothing you have on and satisfy all your burning hunger." Something about the way Connor had said it scared her because it sounded more like a promise than a threat.
