Aubrey exited her room and pressed her back against the door. Leaving Connor in her room was the worst mistake that she could have ever made. Having Connor in her private space felt intrusive.
Breathe in and out. Aubrey breathes in and out. Aubrey kept thinking to herself as panic set in, even though she knew that no amount of thinking in the world would solve anything. The night that both she and Connor spent together was magical, and she had to admit it, but she would never admit it to Connor.
Just having him in the same bed with her brought so many blissful memories to her, and that was what she dreaded the most. She knew that she had to keep Connor away from her at all times.
Remembering all the bad words that she had told Connor this morning was all a lie; she did have feelings for him, and what they shared was not simply lust. She would not admit it to Connor; he thought that she was cheap, and Aubrey would not allow him to think that of her.
She felt the sting of tears in his eyes, but he refused to cry. So far, she had done enough of those in her lifetime, and she was not going to be categorized as a weak woman any longer.
Aubrey made her way down the stairs in the early morning of a Saturday, only to see that her son was deeply engrossed in his favorite cartoon, SpongeBob Square Pants.
When will my son ever get tired of this cartoon? Aubrey questioned herself as she walked down the steps and placed a kiss on her son's cheeks.
"Morning Mother," her son greeted her, and not once did he remove his eyes from his television program.
"Good morning, my boy, and how are you this lovely morning?" She asked CJ, but he did not respond; his focus was on the TV, and for that moment, she was not his main focus.
Aubrey walked away from the living area and made her way towards the dining room, where one of the helpers was setting up the breakfast table for them to have their meal. Aubrey was in no mood to fuss over breakfast being late; rather, she walked back into the living room to watch cartoons with her son. She had no idea why her son was interested in the cartoon, but today she was determined to find out.
"Hello, family!" Connor called out from behind them, and Aubrey's blood ran cold. Without hesitation, CJ forgot about his cartoon and ran toward his dad, who did not mind picking up his already heavy son.
Aubrey could not help but feel a little jealous of the way CJ had responded to his father. Not long before, she vividly remembered greeting her son and asking about his health, and he did not respond, whereas he responded to his father.
Oh, come on, Aubrey, you're just jealous because CJ loves Connor more than he loves you. Aubrey battled with her thoughts longer, until she was brought back to reality by Connor's voice and the waving of his hands in front of her face.
"Huh?"
"I said breakfast is ready. I wonder what sweet thoughts you are thinking about." Connor teased. Aubrey could almost hear the sarcasm in his voice as if tempting her to say that last night's lovemaking was more than just for fun, but Aubrey would never admit that, especially not to him.
Aubrey ignored his sexual comment and walked past him, but as she walked past him, she could smell the sweet scent of spice coming from him. The smell of Connor was not overpowering but just right, and this made Aubrey wonder how a man could smell so nice without even trying.
Aubrey was the first to sit at the breakfast table, and she was followed by CJ and Connor, who also sat at the table. They sat at the table and ate their food in silence. Anyone walking into the dining room could feel the tension between Connor and Aubrey. Lucky for them, their son was the one to break the silence between them.
