Connor was on his way home in his car. He had just dropped off his son, CJ, at his parent's house, and it seemed as though his son was enjoying being with both his grandparents. Connor tried holding in his excitement, but he could not, because soon he would be home with Aubrey.
He could not have been angrier because, by some chance, he ended up being stuck in traffic that was not there when he left for his parents' house. Connor continuously tapped his fingers at the wheel, agitated as time went by. To make matters worse, his phone rang, but sadly for him, it was not Aubrey but rather his father. With all the anger rising up in him, he managed to pick up the phone and place it in his ear.
"Hey dad, what's up?" He asked his father over the phone.
"Hey son, I forgot to tell you when you dropped off CJ, but sadly, your mother and I cannot make it to the charity auction tonight." His father informed him, and sadly for Connor, he knew where his father was going with this act of his.
For as long as Connor could remember, his father would always bail him out of things, and he would always fill in the gaps. Now, it seemed, it was his turn to return the favor.
"Father, I know where you're going with this, and the answer is no; I will not attend the charity auction in your place," Connor informed his father.
"Come on, son; help your old man. This might even be a chance for both you and Aubrey to fix your relationship a bit." His father informed him, and even though Connor wished his father was right, it seemed far-fetched.
"Father, there is no relationship between Aubrey and myself." "We are currently just living with each other for the sake of our son."
"Look, the charity auction is at eight tonight, and I really hope you change your mind about this. You would do your mother and I a big favor by attending on our behalf."
Before Connor could inform his father that there was no way that he was going to change his mind about the charity auction, his father ended the call.
The cars behind Connor began honking at him, and when he looked ahead of him, traffic finally began moving, yet he was still in the same spot. Connor turned on his engine, and he drove his car, catching up to the rest of the vehicles ahead of him.
After what felt like an eternity of driving, Connor was finally relieved when he pulled his car into his driveway. Without putting much thought into it, Connor killed his engine and made his way into his house. He could not help but feel butterflies in his stomach, as he was thrilled to set his eye on Aubrey.
Stop it Connor, you are a grown man and not a lovesick puppy. Get a grip! He kept thinking to himself with every step he took into his house.
Upon entering his house, he called out to Aubrey, but there was no reply from her. Connor looked for her in the living room, the kitchen, and her room, but she was nowhere to be found, and neither was the housekeeper, Rose.
With every minute he searched for her, Connor could not help but feel unsettled by this. As Connor was making his way to the back garden, he bumped into his housekeeper, Rose. She had a huge basket in her hands that contained clean clothes, and it seemed as though she had done some washing.
"Good afternoon, sir." "I heard you were calling my name," Rose told Connor, and she looked worried.
"Yes, Rose." Have you seen Aubrey because I cannot seem to find her anywhere?" Connor informed Rose, and she smiled at him.
"Oh, sir, madam Aubrey told me to tell you that she will be touring around New York, and she will only be back later this evening." Rose informed him, and this put Connor at ease, but he felt disappointed that he would not be seeing Aubrey as soon as he had hoped.
