Chapter 16: Into the Boys' Locker Room

Today we spent another practice sharing the gym with Yongguk's basketball team. Our groups were both busy, and they didn't collide at all. I told Hyosung that I was going to catch up with her later and she left for the dorms with the other members from the dance team.

I saw Yongguk and his friends leaving the gym so I went and followed them. I kept walking up and down the hallway, contemplating if I should confront him or not. About 5 minutes had passed and I finally decided to go and confront him.

I opened the door and barged into the boys locker room.

Ok yeah, that was a pretty spontaneous move, but instead of retreating, I marched through and searched for Yongguk.

Only now were the guys coming out of the showers with their towels and they jumped back into the shower when they saw a girl was in the room.

"YAH! Are you blind? This is the boys' locker room." Some tall guy said to me, but I just dismissed him.

When I continued walking through, more boys were telling me to leave so I sighed and turned to face them. "I'm looking for someone. So everyone else just get out."

Surprisingly they didn't put up much of a fight. They all grabbed their clothes and shuffled out of the room, mumbling about me being crazy or something.

I stopped right in front of the only occupied shower left. I stood with my arms crossed as I heard the person in there whistling a song and turning off the water.

The curtain opened and Yongguk stepped out with a towel wrapped around his waist.

"Hey I need to talk to you."

"Holy fuck." Yongguk almost stumbled back and covered up the top half of his body with his hands. "Jieun, what the hell are you doing in here?"

"I just said I needed to talk to you."

He stared at me, surprised with how calm my voice was and he looked around the locker room. "Well now's not a good time. There's a bunch of guys in here taking their showers so---"

"No I already told them all to leave."

He ran his hand through his damp hair and motioned for me to sit on the bench next to the lockers. "What did you come here to say?"

"Why did you pay for my parents to have surgery? How did you even know that they needed it?"

"Well I was there at the hospital the other day. You couldn't have expected me to believe that allergy excuse you gave me...So how are they?"

"W-well they're fine I guess. I was told that once they got their surgery they would be able to return home--but why would you do that in the first place? You and I have no connection."

"I know that, but I just wanted to help ever since...well ever since that night... and I knew that you wouldn't have been able to pay for that yourself."

I stood up and looked down at him, "You're always trying to fix things with money. If you felt bad about that night, why didn't you apologize?"

He didn't answer me. Instead, he just stared at the floor tiles.

"You never said sorry for what you did." I stayed staring at him and scoffed when he still had nothing to say.

"I'm really sorr--"

"Whatever. I'm just going to pay you back."

"No you don't have to." Now he was talking. "You don't have to pay me back."

"I'm going to do it anyway."

"Well I'm not going to accept your money." Yongguk suddenly stood up and towel tied right over his waist almost unraveled, but he quickly grabbed it and tied it back. "If you really want to pay me back, there's another way you can do it."

I looked at him skeptically.

"We can make a revised version of our contract."

I shook my head at his ridiculous notion, "Psh, I am not going to make another deal like that with you."

"But I know you're going to feel guilty because you're not able to pay me back. At least with this way, you're not gonna be drowning in debt."

"I'm not going to go out on dates with you again. Besides, I have a boyfriend now."

Yongguk's lip twitched slightly at the mention of the word 'boyfriend.' He looked like he was going to surrender and just let me get on with my life, but then he stepped closer and said in his low voice, "He doesn't have to know."

"My answer is no."

Yongguk walked to the other side of the wall where I couldn't see him and I heard him opening a locker. He titled his body out while putting a shirt over his head. "Alright you can just pay me back the amount that I spent on the hospital bill. It was $50,000 for the surgery and another $50,000 for the nights spent in the hospital room. But since it was both of your parents, that makes it $200,000. There's also pain medications and follow-up treatments they have to go to, that's roughly another $1,000 or so. If you want to pay me back, I'll expect the money all in cash by the end of next week. I prefer cash over check because checks tend to bounce and it's just a hassle for me to deal with that."

"Fine." I announced.

Yongguk just finished changing. He came out and leaned against the wall, looking at me with a smug expression.

"I'll give you the money by the end of next week."

That wiped off the sarcastic smile he had on his face.

-------------

Ok how exactly was I going to do that? I make minimum wage at the café and if I worked a whole year, it would only add up to $16,000. Either way, I don't have a whole year to come up with this money. I have until next week.

I grabbed my phone and went to the app store.
