Chapter 24: It's Selfish of Me to Ask

It was 8am.

Someone was ringing the doorbell. Nonstop.

"Ughfdjvndvkmdkvmb," I dragged myself out of bed and stumbled on my way down the stairs. The doorbell ringing has been going on for like 2 minutes straight. I finally opened it.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!!" Yongguk exclaimed and even threw confetti into the air.

"What the hell? So loud...." I rubbed my eyes and looked at him up and down. "What are you even wearing??"

"I just bought this Christmas sweater last night. And this cool light up Santa hat. And I already had these maroon jeans in my closet so why not wear pair 'em all together?" He said perkily and invited himself inside.

"Why's it so loud down here?" Dad said, half-asleep.

"Because of that." I answered, pointing at Yongguk.

"You said you guys would be awake in the morning. I didn't know what time, so I assumed now would be good. Merry Christmas you guys!" He pulled out a dozen wrapped up boxes from a sack like he was Santa Clause and handed several to me, mom, and dad.

"Oh my goodness..." We said in unison.

"Yongguk thank you, but this is too much. We can't accept---"

"It's ok! It's Christmas! A time to give!" Yongguk cut mom off and insisted that we keep our gifts.

I excused myself to go upstairs and look more presentable and once I was fully awake, I could appreciate Yongguk's new--but weird--Christmas spirit.

"Hey, to be honest, I really do like your sweater," I complimented as I touched the stitching on Yongguk's top.

He smiled and pointed to the tree, "Open that red box I got for you first."

I walked over to the tree and ripped open the paper. When I saw what was in the box, I face palmed, "Wow, very cute Yongguk." I said, holding up an identical Christmas sweater.

"Ooh Jieun put it on so we can take pictures of you two," Mom urged and pulled out her camera.

I put the sweater over my head and posed for a couple of pictures with Yongguk.

"Do you like it?" He asked.

"Yeah I love it." I said with a laugh, "We look hella cute."

"You still have a couple more gifts from me though. Looks like your parents really like their gifts." Yongguk looked up and saw how much Mom and Dad were enjoying their new electronics, clothes, and accessories.

"Oh hold on, there's something I have for you," I ran upstairs and when I came down, I handed Yongguk a plain colored box. "It's uh something I wanted to give you before, but I didn't really get the chance to."

He grinned as he lifted the top of the box, but I felt like I had to quickly add, "B-but it's like really not that great compared to what you got my family. To be honest, it's actually kind of lame."

He took the present out and laughed as he looked it over. It was the picture banner and the pug toy that I wanted to give him a while back. Even though I was mad at him, I never threw it away. He was just laughing and I nervously rubbed the back of my neck. It was a really stupid gift tbh.

"To be fair, you never told me what you wanted and I had so little time to actually go to the mall, and I already had this and---"

"Uhhh...." He covered his mouth as he continued to laugh, "Open that other box I brought for you."
