Chapter 4: Bang Yongguk

The next morning, I was able to write out a check to the school using the money that I received from Himchan. It covered for only some of my classes, but I still needed more money. Good thing the deadline to pay wasn't for a while, so I still had time.

After my first class today, I went to the try outs for the university's dance team. It was one of the clubs at school that I was really interested in. I was part of the dance team in high school, so it would be fun to join this.

There were about 40 girls at try outs, and there are only 4 spots available on the team. I started stretching while the dance leaders were looking over our applications.

"Don't worry, I'm here. Sorry I'm late you guys." A girl waltzed into the gym and you could hear her heels click clack on the floor.

"Hyosung?" I whispered as my roommate stood next to me, slipping off her heels and slipping on her socks and sneakers.

"Hi Jieun! I didn't know you were trying out for this too! I hope we both get in. That'd be totes cool!"

"Hello everyone! My name is Sunhwa and I'm the leader of the dance team. My co-director, Hana and I will be teaching you a short dance today and judge you based on your performance."

All of the girls followed the moves and I looked over at Hyosung who was getting them really fast. There was no doubt that she was going to be accepted onto the team. After 30 minutes of learning the routine, it was time to perform in groups of 5.

The music played and I started a little late. Hopefully no one noticed. But I continued dancing and gave my all. Once the music stopped, everyone gave their obligatory claps and the next group was called up.

"You did great!" Hyosung hugged me.

"I messed up though. Didn't you see it?"

"You were fine. So cute out there."

"Thank you everyone who auditioned today. We will email our results later on today, in the meantime---"

"Are you girls done? We have the gym from 4-6 and it's already 4:05." A guy came in with a posse following behind, they were all wearing basketball jerseys.

Sunhwa nodded, "We'll be done soon. We just have a few more announcements to make and---"

"You can make your announcements outside. My team needs to start warming up." The rude guy said.

"Fine we're leaving. It doesn't matter how much you guys practice though, you always lose at the finals anyway." Hana retorted and made a sassy exit.

"Girls, please follow us outside." Sunhwa announced politely.

We all got up and started walking out the gym. I dropped my sweater and I bent down to pick it up. As I bent down, I heard obnoxious whistling from behind me. I quickly straightened up and turned around.

It was that rude basketball leader guy person and his friends. When I looked back at him, he winked at me and I just tried to ignore him. I tried to pick up my sweater again, but I was distracted by his comments.

"Hey why don't you cheer for our basketball team in the next game. You'd look good in one of the cheer uniforms."

As I was thinking of a clever thing to jab at him, Hyosung stepped in, "This is the dance team, not the cheer team, dumbass." She linked arms with me and started walking away. "Ugh he was so rude. I don't like him."

When we reached the dorm, I got a voicemail from mom talking to me about the school. She was asking if I received the financial aid. I called her back immediately and told her everything was covered and they don't have to worry about paying for my school.
