Evening came and Khonsu crept into the sky. After they had finished there meal the girls were talking about going to the lake Khepri said she would join them later wanting to practice her harp.
She walked alone through the empty corridors humming her favorite hymn, her voice echoing faintly off the walls. She stopped suddenly as a tall hooded figure appeared at the end of the corridor wearing a long traveling cloak. Alarm sprang through her and she gasped almost falling over herself as she turned and ran back the way she had come, she could hear their footsteps behind her and they were gaining on her fast, she sent a silent prayer to Hathor but a hand grabbed her arm spinning her around to face the hooded figure. She went to scream but suddenly found herself being embraced, tightly. Feeling very confused she drew back and her eyes widened as the hood fell back revealing a face that she knew so well.
He stared down intently at her a smile forming on his handsome face.
" Prehir"
She whispered feeling the tears well in her eyes " Sorry if I scared you Khep. I have been searching for you everywhere"
Not caring, she flung herself back into his arms and clung to him tightly, feeling his quickened heartbeat.
" It's okay"
She said looking up at him and into his face, he was so close. It had been over a year since they had seen one another and he had grown more handsome than she remembered. His red hair shone like fire, she desperately wanted to reach out and touch it. His soft hazel eyes gleamed brightly at her as he smiled mischievously. She felt a rush through her body and her own heart quickened fiercely as her cheeks started to flush. Letting go of him she pulled away quickly.
As he stood, she realized he had an air about him that his brother didn't have, there was something that had changed or maybe it was something that she had just forgotten. He seemed more like his father than ever before, with an immense energy which seemed to radiate from him and a powerful presence. A true hardened warrior now stood before her as well as a proper prince. As she stared she felt all her thoughts run from her head.
A long silence hung in the air as if they were both trying desperately to think of something to say. Taking his arm she silently led him towards the garden. Ever so often looking around nervously hoping no one would see. In the disappearing light of the quickly setting sun they walked through the sycamore trees.
Long shadows crept across the path as the gardeners of the temple had already disappeared, there utensils all gone, the only sign of them being there was the now perfect garden.
She glanced at him again out of the corner of her eye, he was watching her intently. Looking away, she felt flustered, what the hell was wrong with her? since when had she ever felt like this upon seeing her friend?
Feeling herself blush once again she cleared her throat.
" What are you doing here Prehir? you know you shouldn't be here." he stopped abruptly.
" I know but I was passing through and couldn't stop myself"
He grinned raising his eyebrow.
" I came yesterday but I got caught" his eyes glistened with mischief and she found herself laughing at his expression.
"The high priestess told me off" she grinned, falling onto a nearby bench. It was strange because he had changed so much and yet he was also in some ways still the same.
"She can be pretty terrifying. I am surprised you came back" she grinned up at him as he came to sit next to her.
" I have missed you Khep" he said suddenly becoming very serious, it startled her, making her heart thump
" I have missed you too" she whispered as he ran a hand through his hair.
" But my brother misses you the most" he sighed, pulling his hand away letting it rest upon the hilt of his sword that hung from his belt.
" Oh" she looked down at her own hands, studying them intently before beginning to speak again.
" He did send me a letter saying your both off to fight with your father, please be careful" not looking at him she paused
" I mean... do you have to go?" she concentrated on the ground as he got up. In the light of the now flickering torches his silhouette danced.
"I have to go someday ,Egypt could be mine, it's my duty to protect and fight for her just like my father and his father has done before me"
