..........................................................................................................................................................

Khepri looked around the chamber where she had been imprisoned.

Never had she felt so afraid and so alone.

The chamber was small but still in the palace and not an actual jail so it was quite plain but still comfortable. Hieroglyphics adorned the walls. The Nile looked like it was flowing, as it stretched across the chamber enclosing her in a small square. Crocodiles lazily, lay sunbathing in the light of the chamber. She imagined them swishing their tails and swatting away the flies and small insects that flew over them.

Khepri sat on the bed silently wondering if Ebony would be allowed to come or her Mawat or father. Did they even know that she had been locked away in this chamber?

Sighing, she flopped onto the bed and felt herself sinking. Her hand going instinctively to her neck, going to finger the silver necklace until she realized she didn't have it. Amunher had it. Closing her eyes. She must have fallen asleep because a bright light filled her vision.

It was so bright , that it hurt, looking away she heard the sound of children laughing. The laughter was merry and echoed around her. Dancing as if on the wind but there was no wind. In fact, she saw nothing but pure white. Had she died?

Had  Wadjyt poisoned her?

Was she about to have her heart weighed?

As the white cleared slightly she saw a silhouette's.

It was her brother and Amunher and Prehir as children, they were playing in the garden. Amunher wanted to be the Pharoah.

She smiled as she saw herself, playing with them. Laughter filled the air as she saw Queen Nefertari smiling at them. Her eyes glistening with mirth.

The vision disappeared like a puff of smoke to be replaced by the pure white from earlier.

A voice she recognized filled her ears.

" Khep"

It was Prehir's voice .

He gave a smile that lit up his entire face, making his eyes sparkle.

"Prehir? What's going on?"

Her voice seemed to shake.

Prehir walked forward. She saw he was wearing his best linen kilt with his chest bare and the eye of Horus medallion shining as bright as the midday sun. His red hair was like a small fire.

As he came forward, he stopped right in front of her and smiled, His eyes glistening.

"Khep"

He said again softly and drew her into his arms.

The loneliness that she had felt just moments ago ebbed away.

She felt relief flood her body.

"You're okay?"

She looked up at him as she spoke.

He just smiled.

"Khep, I am to be married"

With that, she stepped back, as if he had slapped her. The feeling of being alone and loneliness came back ten-fold. A tear trickled down her face.

"Why would you say that?"

She said despairingly.

He vanished before he could answer and she was suddenly standing in a crowd of people.

Dressed in her priestess robes she stood by the river's edge and watched the ceremonial wedding ship carrying the groom slowly float along the river, floating further and further away from her.

To her horror, Prehir was upon the ship. As she saw him dressed in the ceremonial robes  she felt her heart crack.

She wanted to shout to him but it would be pointless as the crowd's cries of joy hid her cries of sadness as she watched the other boat that carried  Wadjyt. The veil covering her goddess like face.

Khepri, turned and fled, fighting against the sea of people as she was shoved aside, as people squeezed and nudged her trying to get a better view of the wedding and the dazzling bride and groom who were both a god and goddess to the ordinary people.

As she fled she fell into the dirt , surrounded by dust and animals, she felt truely pathetic.

Khepri awoke to find the chamber in darkness. She had fallen asleep. That had been just a dream. A small bit of her felt relieved but then she remembered that he lay somewhere in the palace alone in the big bed, fighting for his life.

She hoped that the Prince was still alive, getting up she went to the small window and looked out at the starry night sky praying to the gods that Prehir would survive the night.

A slight breeze, whispered through the window as if in responce to her request but she had no idea of it's meaning.
