summary: spaceboy!dan and plantboy!phil meet at a party, one with a telescope and a greenhouse.
Stars. That was the first thing Dan Howell wanted to see.
Plants. That was the first thing Phil Lester wanted to touch.
And so they both found themselves walking towards the green house right next to the venue, the night sky crowded with crickets chirping and owls hooting. Dan noticed the boy that seemed to be following him but brushed it off, noticing that he looked too friendly to do any harm.
Dan found his way through the doors, completely ignoring the plants and searching for the telescope. When he found it he hurried over, eyes glistening with excitement as he dug for change.
Then his smile dropped.
He didn't have any change to put into the scope. He huffed a puff of air, dropping his shoulders. Hopeful, Dan turned, spotting the black-haired boy with the flowers in his hair looking at a particularly dead-looking flower.
"Mister," Dan called out, his hand still on the telescope. The boy stood, flashing a lopsided grin.
"I'm anything but that," he chuckled, and Dan was shocked at how pretty the boy was. "Phil." He reached out, shaking Daniel's hand. Dan smiled at him.
"Dan," he responded. "I was wondering if you had any change. . . I really was hoping to stargaze tonight."
Phil paused before pulling away, digging through his pockets. A smile broke onto his face and he pulled his closed hand out, opening it to reveal a few cents. Dan grinned and took the money, thanking him and beginning to walk away before Phil spoke up.
"Wait," he whispered. "Do you have any water? This flower seems to be dying and I think some water will help. . ."
Dan furrowed his eyebrows before picking up his glass of water, handing it the boy. Phil thanked him and watered the flower, and Dan watched, intrigued at how interested this boy was with plants. He turned away and inserted the coins, leaning down and pressing his face to the object.
He closed the other one, instantly being met with glowing stars and the moon. Dan gasped in astonishment and immediately felt at ease, letting out a breath that showed in front of him. He clutched his space jacket close to him, the cold air beginning to get the best of him.
"Can I look?" He heard Phil ask, and pulled back to look at the smiling boy next to him. "I'll trade you for this flower."
And even though Dan loved space, he had a feeling he'd also love this boy. So he nodded, stepped back, and took the flower.
Then plants became Dan Howell's third favorite thing, with Phil Lester as the first and astronomy right in between.
But even if the galaxies were beautiful, Phil Lester was much prettier than that, and he could stare for ages.
Not to mention it was a free view.
