summary: an au in which every being is colorblind until they set eyes on their soulmate.

Him?

No.

Her?

No.

Phil huffed, his eyes flickering on the moving figures in front of him. He hated parties, but he was almost twenty-one now- he had to find his soulmate. Nobody stood out to him, or caught his eye- quite literally.

In a world where everyone was colorblind until setting their eyes on their soulmate, it was quite a beautiful world they lived in. But a tough one.

It was tiring of finding someone attractive or falling for someone who didn't make you see the way you should be. And then Phil flickered his eyes once more, and he staggered back, colors invading his view all at once. As if someone threw paint all over his pupils, he was seeing color.

Phil froze. Who did he just look at? Which one was it? He scanned the room for anybody else freaking out like he was, but only a blur of rainbow was passing him. But then somebody was like a clear picture, a cleaned lens capturing a perfect moment.

A brunette was practically sprinting out of the room, eyes running around faster than he was. He was turned away from Phil but Phil could still see his features, his squishy, dimpled cheeks and chocolate eyes. His fists were clenched, but not in an intimidating way- anxious instead. Phil followed him discreetly and cornered him at the door he just tried to open.

"You're seeing it too, right?" Phil asked, his arms on either side of the boy's head to pin him against the door.

The stranger stared at him. And Phil couldn't stop staring at this boy in front of him either. His chapped lips were parted, no words tumbling out but instead little pants from rushing. His palms were pressed against the door, his head tilted up to gaze up at Phil.

He licked his lips then moved his eyes to stare at his own feet. "Seeing what?"

"Colors. You're seeing colors."

The stranger's head snapped up. "It's you?"

"It's you," Phil breathed out, a crooked smile masking onto his lips. "Wow, I scored big time."

The boy blushed, a shy grin now present. "I'm Dan."

"Phil," he responded, and then he moved away from Dan so he wasn't pinned. Dan readjusted, straightening up but still being shorter than Phil. "Why were you so eager to leave?"

"I wasn't ready yet. I'm only in highschool. I was scared of my life being planned out too fast when I don't even know what I want to eat tomorrow. I was scared of having the wrong person and being told its the right one."

"And me? How do you feel now that you see me?"

"You intimidate me, but that's probably because you're taller and you just had me pinned against a door. . . but you're pretty, I won't deny that."

"Just because we're 'meant to be' or whatever," Phil made quotation marks with his fingers, "I'm not gonna force myself onto you. Take your time and we'll start off as friends, and if you don't wanna be something more then that's okay too."

Dan smiled again. "Forget the intimidating part, you definitely wouldn't even hurt a fly."

Phil blushed. "That's not true! I killed a lizard in my house yesterday!"

"Setting something free isn't killing it."

"It is if they don't want to leave."

Dan paused. "That was really deep."

"I'm a little drunk so."

"That's reasonable. Wanna take me out for another drink then?"

"Aren't you in highschool?"

"Let's just say I'm your age tonight," Dan smiled, intertwining his fingers with his soulmate.

Phil rolled his eyes but they left hand in hand, and even though he could see in colors, this boy had him thinking anything but dull as well.

Dan had not only colored his eyes, but he had painted Phil's mind with the brush of words.
