The doctor gave a relieved look as he removed his mask .

"She's fine. Surgery was a success, but we had some trouble with her shoulder wound, so we'll have to wait until she's fully stabilized before removing it,"

"Can I see her?" I asked impatiently. He nodded and I followed him through the double doors and down the hall.

"Now she just woke up from the anesthetic, so she'll be a little drowsy," he warned me as I entered the room. She had her head tilted to the right, her shoulder wrapped in bandages as well as some wrapped from her chest down. Her eyes were closed and she was attached to an IV drip, a heart monitor, and an oxygen tank. I walked in silently and sat with her. I smiled at her as I moved some of her hair away from her eye. She opened her eyes slowly. And looked at me. She gave a weak smile and grabbed my hand.

"Hey,"  say quietly.

"Hey," She replied softly, slurred and groggy. She lied her head on my shoulder as I rubbed her arm. Her left shoulder was bandaged, so I made sure to be gentle.

"How are you?" I asked slowly.

"My shoulder...it hurts too much,"

"They couldn't remove the bullet. You lost a lot of blood  so they wanted you to gain some of your strength back before removing it," I say as I grab her hand, and she grips it tightly to my hand in pain as her eyes squint tightly.

"It hurts," She whined a little as she leaned her head on my arm. I got in bed with her and stroked her hair, trying to ease her pain.

"Want me to ask your doctor to give you something for the pain?" She nodded as she leaned on my shoulder. I got up and went outside, finding him standing near the nurses' station.

"She's in a lot of pain Doctor. She needs something for it," I said to him he nods and walks back into the room.

"Ms. Jackson?"

"Doctor...I need this bullet out now...I can't take this pain," She groaned, readjusting in her bed.

"I can't Ms. Jackson, it's too risky. You could easily die if your blood count level is too low,"

"I don't care! I'm in a lot of pain...I can't take it," She groaned as she tried to sit up and get out of bed, but I wasn't having any of it.

"Janet no...lie down, you just got a bullet taken out of your side. Take it easy,"

"I can't take it easy...I need this bullet out now!" She shouted and struggled.

"Janet stop it, NOW!" I ordered. She stopped in shock and lied back on her bed, frowning and pouting.

"I'll be sure to give you something for the pain and to help you sleep tonight,"

"How long do I have to stay here?" She asked.

"It depends on how well you heal, I'll give you an estimated time by tomorrow," He said handing me a bottle of pills. I thanked him as he walked out. I turned to her as she stayed with a frown on her face.

"Come on Janet...you were being irrational...if you were to die while in surgery, how am I going to be able to hold you at night, or kiss you, or....make love to you?" I asked while blushing. She looked up at me and her face softened and turned red.

"Why are you so far? Come lay in bed with me," she says, patting a spot next to her.

"I don't want to hurt you," I say.

"I'm already in pain...but I would be close to you anyways," I walked in and after adjusting a little, we made it work. She lied on my chest as I pet her head.
