Ch. 5 Dunkin like Lebron (Liana)

Richard was a guy of few words. He walked me to the gymnasium and said nothing at all. Even when I thanked him he simply nodded.

I walked inside the gymnasium where everyone's eyes fell on me.

The instructed name was Mrs. Witley she wore basketball shorts and a t-shirts that said "Go Shadows". Hmm... that must be Nightshades mascot.

She asked me my name while she sent the other kids to dress out and play basket ball. While we we're in the middle of a conversation a kid came up and said they we're one short of a player.

Mrs. Witley looked at me.

"Can you play ball in that get up??" She asked making me smile.

"I can play ball in anything." I said following the guy onto the court.

The other team had the ball but not for long. The guy whose team I joined stole it and I figured out his name was Nathan. We ran down to the other side of the court and Nathan was blocked in by the other team. I moved back some and over.

I signaled using my arms and quickly the ball was thrown to me.

I caught it and dribbled past the other team. I was right under the goal and some big girl was pushing me forward out of bounds. I used all my weight pushing with my back and but. She stumbled back giving me a window of time to jump, lift the ball up, and slam it down into the net.

I was highfived by Nathan who seemed to be impressed. The game continued and my team won. Mrs. Witley called me over.

"Nice playing kid. Where ya from?" She asked.

"Miami Florida." I said shyly.

"Where did you learn to play ball like that?"

"A couple blocks from our house a bunch of guys played basketball at the park. My sister and I walked past there everyday and one day I asked could I play. And at first they took it easy on me until I dunked on one of them. After that I joined my school team and learned the rest."

She nodded.

"I want you at basketball practice tomorrow directly after school here in the gym." She said smiling.

"Yes ma'am Mrs. Witley." I said as the bell rung.

"Coach Witley." She said smiling as I looked down at my schedule seeing that I had a computer class next.

Computer class seemed cool enough.
His name was Mr. Melvin and he let us use the computers as we pleased. All the social media sites were blocked but I still enjoyed reading sports articles.

Next I had Geometry. Ughhhh. I hate Math with a hot, white, burning, everlasting, crushing, earth shattering passion.

My teachers name was Mrs. Dilmore. She seemed like a nice lady but still i hate math. She went over SOH CAH TOA. Whatever that means.

After that was World History. Totally love it. Because all the answers are in the book. I can memorize easily it's the working stuff out for myself that I hate. The teacher was Mrs. Addison apparently she was the volleyball coach. She was median height with short blonde hair and soft blue eyes. She seemed nice enough I guess. Nathan was in this class and invited me to sit beside him. I was glad for the invitation as he started conversation.

"So Lebron. I here Coach wants you on the girls basketball team."

"The names Liana. You here right. I have to be at practice tomorrow after school. I love sports. I could play them all day." I sighed as Mrs. Addison went over the lesson.

"I'm Nathan. Nathan Sphinx." He said grinning.

Nathan was tall. His pale skin and red hair kind of matched. By the way he walked he was kind of dorky but even more so than that. There was something secretive in his eyes like he was guarded about something. It was the same look Sean gave me before he told me he was gay.

"I see that. What other sports you like?" He asked.

"Well.. my all time favorite is track. I don't know why but I feel the most free when I'm running. I feel like I can leave everything behind. But I love all sports you name it I've tried it or am willing to try it." I said

"You know band qualifies as a sport to the school board."

"Now that... is stretching it just a little bit. I mean I love the band but a sport hmmmm... I don't know about that." I laughed Tiana would have smacked me for saying that. She loves band.

Nathan laughed and Mrs. Addison glared at him.

"I see you've already become a form of entertainment for our new student Nathan. How about next time you'll be entertaining me in detention." By the way she said it everyone took it the wrong way and burst into fits of uncontrolled laughter, including Nathan.

After that Nathan and I walked to the cafeteria for lunch. I seen Tiana who was already seated and eating with the girl Megan and her brother Richard. Nathan and I grabbed trays and separated as he went to a table of what looked like athletes.

No wonder he doesn't come out. He would be a laughing stock with friends like that. I thought to myself. Among the crowd of his friends I seen that one guy. His name was uhh... oh Yea Adrian Wolfe.

That stupid guy my sister thought was cute.

I sat down at the table as me and Adrian made eye contact. His eyes showed recognition and then looked away as if looking for someone. I knew it must be Tiana. I decided to ignore him and turned to my sister.

"How are you liking it here?" I asked and her face lit up in a nice smile.

"It's not Miami but it will do." She said laughing.

I could tell she was happy.

"So you gonna help me with my math homework?" I said flashing her my pearly whites.

Tiana was in honors math and advanced chemistry. She would be in English too but then that would put her in a whole other grade and we want to graduate together.

"Yea sure. Geometry right? Piece of cake." She said bragging making me glare.

"Excuse me beautiful ladies but I think I have met you before." Adrian walked up to the table and sat down.
