The first day went as fast as the store's inventory on black Friday. Jon and I were currently walking down the halls on our way to his car. Well, he was actually giving me a piggy back to his car. Same difference. We were joking around about something that had happened to him during chemistry class when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a group of people surrounding someone. It was Melina and it appeared she was basking in the limelight.
I'm one hundred percent sure she'll hitch a ride with one of the jocks, so we walked away from her without the slightest hint of remorse in leaving her behind. Jon didn't seem to care either. He was too caught up in giving a very detailed description of his mishap during chemistry.
When we got to his car he put me down. "Hey, Mels...You know how my family goes out to camp each year?" He asked nervously, opening the passenger door for me.
I frowned a little, remembering how he'd be gone up to weeks sometimes on these camping trips, leaving me to fend for myself during that time. "Yeah, how could I not remember?" I responded bitterly as we both got in the car and he turned the engine on.
"Well, this year my parents are letting me bring someone along." His face suddenly morphed into a serious expression as he drove away from the student parking lot.
"Oh, is that so? Who's the lucky person?" I let out a small giggle at the end.
He looked me straight in the eye when saying, "I was going to ask this one girl, she's really beautiful and funny, but I don't know if she'll go..."
"You'll never know if you don't ask..." I trailed off, getting lost in his eyes. I know he's talking about me, so why not play along?
"You think she'll say yes?"
"She'll be stupid if she passes up the chance." I continued to play along, pretending that I didn't know who he was talking about.
"That's great 'cause..." He grinned. "Mels, will you ask Amy to come with me?"
"I'd love to--" I did a double take. "What?!" I shrieked when his words sunk in. The idiot had the nerve to smirk at my reaction.
"Whatever." I tried my best to sound like I didn't care, but it probably didn't work with the anger boiling through my smile. "That's cool 'cause I had a date to go to that day too."
"Fine." He snapped with the smirk disappearing from his handsome face.
"Fine." I retorted just as acidly, facing the blur of trees and houses out my window. When I actually thought of what happened just now I wanted to laugh so hard, I could feel the vibrations in my chest as I held it in.
Seconds later we both burst out laughing hysterically.
Through the laughter Jon said. "You on a date? Oh my god, that sold it!"
Still laughing I replied, "I know!" Laugh. "Me on an actual date..."
"Hey!" I punched his shoulder harshly when I realized what he said. He still had that little smirk placed on his lips that angered me.
"We're here." He sang, pulling into my driveway.
"Thanks." I smiled brightly, taking off my seat-belt. I went around quickly, opened Jon's door and I kissed his nose gently. When he was going to return the favor and kiss mine I turned my face the other way, causing him to kiss my ear. I giggled and so did he. "Sorry." I apologized for moving my head.
"It's okay." He leaned in, kissing my nose this time. "What do you want?"
I shifted my weight to my left foot. "Take me to the camping trip instead of Amy." I brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear, keeping my nervous gaze on the pavement below. It's a lovely terra cotta color now that I inspect it closely.
