The lights on Osiris were on as high and bright as they could be. Seeing that it was night and unusually dark it was for the best. Now there weren't many pods in the city but now, now there seemed to be more and more. All I could think of is that Koda had something to do with the rising population of pods. Anyway the searchlights on the top of the car kept everything that had a light sensitivity away. I looked over to where Mika was sitting with her eyes slightly covering her face. Though the sun had no effect on her these lights did. "Are you okay? You know I can turn them down if they're bothering you too much." I offered but only got a thumbs up in return as an answer as she attempted to burrow into the shadows of the car. Even after all this time and how many times I had gone up against pods, they were still the one thing I hated the most and If I didn't have to, I wouldn't have anything to do with them. They were just so creepy, much like Mark. But I would much rather deal with a creepy drugged up warlock than a zombie like thing that wants to rip the flesh off of the bones of anything it came across.
The car shook and swerved to the other lane. Osiris flashed a red warning on the dash letting myself and everyone else in the car know that something was wrong and the lights the were being used for protection were being taken out one by one. "Mutated being present." It flashed over and over again. And again the car shook and rocked followed by the smashing sound of glass from the lights above. "Fuck." I whispered grabbing a hold of the wheel and swerved the car like mad trying to shake off the pod the was catching a free ride. It did give, there was more sounds of smashing glass followed by the scratching sound of the metal of the car. It had to be more than one that was trying to pry the top of the car off. "Hold on!" I yelled hitting a button to armor it and rolled the car off the road and onto the side of the road. "Are you all all right?" "Besides you rolling the car over, yeah we're all good." Rachel replied from the back, honestly that's the only one I was concerned about. "Okay." I breathed sitting still for a brief moment before pulling back on to the road. Looking out the window I could see the bodies of two pods lying on the side of the road crippled and twitching. one of them, the bigger one was moving it's mouth but no noise was coming out.
We were literally five minutes from home when again Osiris flashed the same warning. This time though there were no lights for protection. The only thing separating us from the thing that was so desperately trying to get in was the metal of the car. "Don't do it. That space is way too narrow love. The car won't fit!" Dean knew that my sight had fallen on an alley way with a low hanging fire escape. Surely driving through there at a fast enough speed it would knock off and possibly decapitate the pod that was on the car. "It'll fit just hold on!!" I stepped on the gas pedal as hard as I could and sped into the alley way. Once we reached the fire escape there was a sickening smashing noise followed by a thumping and finally finished by a splatting. "Don't look at me like that. I don't think that scraping the sides of your car necessarily counts as fitting in the alley." Dean smiled and looked into the back to make sure everyone was okay once again. "Your sister is crazy Rach!" He teased trying to lighten to mood. "You get used to it Dean. You'll see since you're the one that is going to marry her." Taylor shot back causing herself and Rachel to giggle. Just as he had somewhat gotten them to calm down a blood curdling, ear drum splitting girly scream broke the silence. For a second I had thought it was one of the girls but it wasn't. It was Aiden screaming as a hand broke through the roof of the car and was clawing the air frantically. Not even thinking I grabbed hold of the arm and bent it in an un natural way breaking it in more than one place. Once it was broken and the bone was clearly exposed I reached up to where the skin was torn and tore it even more. Until it was no longer attached to the thing it belonged to.
A roar like scream was emitted as the pod who the arm belonged to bounded off of the car and was now staring in. It's black holes for eyes focusing on me and only me. A grimace looking smile formed on it's face as it cocked it's head and began to speak. "You think this is the end Cande? Oh how wrong you are, you are so very wrong. Everyone knows that your family is your biggest weakness. And everyone is going to use that against you. You're going to get everyone you love killed and there isn't anything you can do to stop it. You can try but you won't be able to stop what is coming." It reared it's head back and let out a howl letting any and every pod within range know that it was hurt and needed help. Reaching down under my seat I pulled out as much gear as I could carry and began to strap it to myself. "You guys need to get home now!" "Cande what are you doing? You have no idea how many pods are on their way to our location and you're just going to get out? You're going to be out numbered!" Dean protested grabbing onto my arm as if to hold me in place. "Dean I am the only one that can take a bite of a pod and not have it seriously injure me. None of you are immune to them like me, i'm not putting any of you at risk like that. I don't know how many are on their way so I need you to go now! As long as you're here they're going to go after the car and end up either at our house or near it. I'm not going to allow it. Give me a couple of hours and I'll be home I promise." I looked at Rachel and nodded. She didn't do anything, just continued to look straight ahead.
