Chapter 16

~Mallory~

“Mom!” I shot off Thomas’ bed.

“What the hell are you doing in here?! This isn’t your room!” She gave me a confused look, then glanced at Thomas and glared.

“Mom…settle down.” I walked toward her. “Have you seen my room? Kelly did that to my room!” I grabbed her arm and dragged her across the hall and opened my door. All she did was gasp.

“I bet you did this yourself.” She accused.

“Yeah, cause I would do this to my room.” I scoffed. When I looked at her face, she was staring at me with stern eyes.

“You really think I did this, don’t you?” My voice was hard. I was pissed.

“Call up the Brayes and get Kelly on the line! Or get Thomas to do it, she’ll tell Thomas anything.”

“No. Kelly is a sweet girl. She’s going to be a bridesmaid in my wedding.”

“Maybe you should just adopt her; she seems like the perfect daughter!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.

“Hey now.” I turned and saw Ben standing at the top of the stairs. “What’s going on?” He looked between my mom and me.

“She thinks I messed up my room, but it was Kelly. Look at it!” I showed him my room. Ben just shook his head.

“Kelly would do something like this.” He mumbled.

“What? You believe your step-daughter over your wife?” My mom sniffed. What a hypocrite.

“I could be asking you something like that.” Ben pointed out. I smiled at him.

“You believe some girl you met at a party before we got married, but you don’t believe your own daughter.” My mom was quiet.

“Thomas and I were going to redecorate it starting tomorrow.” I mumbled.

“Yeah, we were planning.” Thomas said. He finally showed up. Took him long enough to try and help me.

“Didn’t look like planning to me.” My mom snapped. I rolled my eyes.

“Well, we came back to offer you a trip to Hawaii. You’re mom and I are going.” Ben looked at me.

“I would love to go, really, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to go with my mom. Sorry Ben. Thanks for the offer.” I glanced over at Thomas.

“Ugh, I do not want to go to Hawaii. It can get boring there.” Thomas muttered. Ben nodded his head.

“Well, we’re leaving tomorrow in the afternoon. So, Jan and I are getting some sleep. Good night Mallory, Thomas.” He nodded at us before ushering my mom away.

I rubbed my temple and sighed. I felt a pair of arms wrap around me.

“It’ll be fine.” He murmured into my ear. I relaxed into his arms. I felt so safe here.
