"I didn't know who else to call. Something bad has happened and I don't have anyone else. I could've went to talk to my dad but I honestly don't know what he'll say and I'd much rather not find out." I admit over the line. I hear a long sigh and finally she speaks.
"What happened exactly?" She asks, sounding a little frustrated. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. Is she mad at me?
"Are you mad at me?" My thoughts turn into words.
"No, I'm not mad at you. I'm frustrated because I've been in Paris for at least two weeks and I still can't figure out how to fix this damn shower." Evi speaks angrily. I hear a clank in the background and what sounds like items falling. "Fuck it, I'm taking a bath."
After a few moments of listening to her shuffle around and hearing the water running for what felt like forever, she finally talks to me.
"Okay, I'm chill now. So what happened? Why are you upset?" She asks sincerely. I knew I could talk to her. We have a pretty long history and she means a lot to me, as just a persona and friend of course. She's definitely not Chloe.
As I begin to take my time telling Evi all the details of what had happened ever since college started for us, my mind begins to wander back to when Evi and I were together.
"Good morning, my love." I brush the hair from Evi's face and she smiles up at me, pecking my lips with hers. I taste the faint raspberry chapstick on her plush lips.
"Hi," she giggles. "You're really beautiful, Ethan." Evi begins to trace her fingers up and down my collarbones and chest. I smile sweetly at her. This girl is my everything.
"I think you're mistaking me with yourself." I wink at her and she kisses me once more before rolling out of bed. I watch her as she scoops up my tee shirt and throws it over her messy, yet perfect hair and onto her amazing body.
"What are we going to do today?" She smiles at me, running her fingers through her tangled locks. I shrug, checking the time.
"Let's go to the park," I mumble, watching her slip on her jeans.
As we reach the park, I intertwine my fingers with hers. We sit down at a park bench and watch the leaves of the trees sway down to the ground.
"Excuse me?" A tall girl with long brown hair and gorgeous green eyes, with braces approaches Evi and I.
"Yes?" Evi speaks for the both of us.
"Can you tell me how to get to Clemmons Drive from here?" She smiles sweetly at us, acting kindly.
"Yeah, just take a left past the Walgreens and then go straight until you see the sign for HitchPost Road, and then turn right and you should be there." Evi explains, rubbing her thumb across my skin.
"Thank you so much!" The nice girl leaves us behind and Evi lays her head on my shoulder as we enjoy the rest of the day, talking and laughing about everything.
I didn't realize until now that the girl we met so long ago was Chloe. I also didn't realize that two years after that, our parents married one another. It was until just now that I had met Chloe before I had actually met her, if that makes sense.
"Ethan are you there?" Evi breaks me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, I'm here. The connection must've went out for a minute." I lie. I was too consumed in my thoughts.
"Well, what I was saying was, maybe you should just give her space for now and let things fix themselves. She will realize that she is crazy about you and she'll realize how stupid she was for not letting you explain." Evi speaks bluntly. That's one of the many things I love about her. She's honest and doesn't sugarcoat shit.
"Thanks Evi," I smile even though she can't see me.
"You're welcome." She speaks softly.
"When are you coming to visit?" I ask, thinking about how much Colton misses her. I actually miss her a lot too. I mean we grew up together, she was my first real girlfriend and my first time. She'll always have a special place in my heart.
"I actually don't know for sure yet. I hope to visit for Christmas of course but that's like a month or so away. I kind of would like to visit sooner as well." Evi explains. It would be fun if she came back for a while. She could tell us about Paris and make Colton stop being such a whore.
"Have you talked to Colton?" I ask bluntly.
"Actually, I've tried to call him and even text, but he won't reply or call me back." I can hear the hurt in her voice. What the hell? He says he misses her but won't even fucking answer her calls? I'm going to have to have a chat with him about that.
"Wow, I'll talk to him and see what's up." I admit.
"I mean you don't have to," she says, trailing off.
"But you want me to. Plus you love him."
"Well I-I yeah I love him a lot and it killed me to leave him, it killed me to leave you, but I had to do what was best for me and study abroad in order to create a good life for me and make a career out of something I love."
"That's understandable and if he doesn't understand that, then he is completely stupid." I speak harshly. He is stupid. Sleeping around and getting shitfaced. Evi doesn't deserve that.
"You're right. But hey, I'm about to turn into a prune; I've been in this bath far too long. It was really nice talking to you but I should get going. It's really late here." She yawns over the line and I can't help but to laugh at her odd yawn.
"Alright, don't need you turning into a prune," I chuckle at my own joke and I can hear her stifling back a laugh. "I forgot about the different time zone thing. Goodnight, love you."
"It's okay, anytime. Goodnight, love you too bud," she says before hanging up. She use to call me bud a lot before we started dating. It's nice to know we can be okay after everything we've been through and after all these years we've known one another.
I realize I've probably been sitting in my truck for at least two hours. Now it's time to go beat the stupid out of Colton.
