*Chloe's POV*
"You can't stay in bed all day," Veronica jerks on my comforter, trying to pull it away from my body but I maintain a harsh grip on the material.
"I can and I will." I snap, covering my face with the plush fabric. She sighs loudly and I feel a spot droop down from where she sits down on my bed.
"Both of us know this isn't healthy for you. Ever since you came home yesterday, you've been completely different. I know that Ethan really hurt you but do you really believe sulking in bed is going to fix anything?" Veronica speaks softly, patting the blankets where my shoulder is. I uncover my face and meet her eyes with my own.
"I don't know what to do, Veronica. I know we've been through a lot of shit and we've gotten through it all but I made a secret vow to myself that after he slept with that Sierra girl, I would no longer be with him if he ever cheated on me again."
"Are you even certain he cheated on you? Chloe, when he was here, the way he looked at you is the way I've wanted a boy to look at me for a really long time." She pauses for a moment, letting what she said sink into my thoughts. "I think this is all a big misunderstanding. I see how happy he makes you; you deserve happiness."
"But what if he actually did cheat on me? Then what do I do?" I rub my eyes, trying not to cry.
"Then we both know how to make his life hell. Besides, I learned from the best at how to get back and a scummy boy." She winks at me. "But I don't think that Ethan is a scummy boy, to be completely honest. Sure, maybe he can be a dick sometimes from some of the stories you've told me. However, I do believe that he wants the best for you and he wants to love you no matter what."
"Thank you Veronica," I wipe the hair from my face and she smiles at me.
"Anytime, Chloe. C'mon, let's stop all this sulking nonsense. You have class in forty minutes and I expect you to be positive and stay up to your full potential. Besides, you only have two days until he has to call you and if he doesn't then you get to call him and then everything will be okay." She reassures me and I nod slowly. I throw back the blankets and step onto the cool hardwood floor. Veronica puts on some music and she sings along while getting dressed.
I shuffle through my dresser in search of a cute outfit to make me feel less mopey. I decide on a lavender tee shirt dress with a brown braided belt and cream colored scarf.
"Wait! Don't put those shoes on!" Veronica says as I start to tie the laces on my ankle boots.
"Um?" I look at her confused. She digs under her bed and hands me a pair of brown leather knee boots with buckles on the ankles.
"Ooh," I gasp quickly zipping them up. I walk over to the mirror and admire my outfit. "I love it! Thanks for picking out better shoes for me." I laugh and she giggles with me.
"No problem! I mean don't get me wrong, the shoes you were gonna wear are definitely cute too but I feel like mine matches your outfit more perfectly." Veronica squeals excitedly. She loves shoes far too much.
"I agree," I smile while pulling out my make up and applying some smokey eyeshadow and black liner along with some mascara.
"Don't forget we're picking my brother up from the airport and eating lunch with him today!" Veronica says as I pick up my side bag.
"Oh yeah! I almost forgot he was visiting today! My class ends around 11:30 so I will meet you here around 11:45. Is that okay?"
"Yeah but we have to leave before twelve so be ready to walk out the door as soon as you get here!" She says while pulling on her leather jacket. I put on my sweater and wave goodbye to her as I close the door behind me. I'm guessing she's going to go buy some groceries considering her brother will be staying with us for a few days.
I finally reach English class with a few minutes to spare. I pull out my notebook and my favorite pen and wait for the teacher to begin speaking. I check my phone for any messages from Ethan and feel a ping of sadness erupt in my heart. I may've really screwed up this time. It's okay, Chloe. Just two more days until you can text him if he doesn't text you first, I speak to myself mentally.
"Hello," Ryder greets me as he takes the seat next to me. His smile is big and his teeth are a blinding white.
"Hey," I greet him equally.
"How are you?" He asks kindly. I smile at his question.
"I'm doing okay, today. You?"
"I'm good. The weather is very nice today." Ryder speaks subtly, making small talk. I nod in agreement as the teacher approaches his stand. He begins speaking and Ryder and I give him our full attention, despite other people in the class talking and being rude.
After class ends, I shove my materials into my bag and accidentally bump heads with Ryder as he bends down to pick up his pencil. "Ouch," I groan, rubbing my forehead.
"I'm sorry, I am such a klutz!" He says while rubbing his own head.
"I actually think it was my fault," I admit, meeting his eyes with my own. With our faces only inches from one another, I begin to feel the awkward tension seep between us. I quickly pull away from him and stand up, making it more awkward.
"I'm sorry. You just you have really pretty eyes. They're mesmerizing," Ryder scratches the back of his neck and I bite my bottom lip, looking away from him.
"Th-thank you," I stutter out nervously. "Well," I look at the clock on my phone. 11:35. "I gotta go meet Veronica. I'll see you around." I speak quickly. He nods in understanding and I make my way out of the class.
How awkward and tension filled was that? Why was he staring at me like that? I shake my mind clear from the thoughts and find Veronica waiting for me outside the dorm.
"Hey! C'mon, we gotta go! Vince is gonna be here soon!" She smiles big and excitedly. It's great to see how strong of a bond they have.
"Okay, one sec, lemme throw my bag in the dorm." I do just that and then rush to Veronica's car. I jump in the passenger seat and Veronica wastes no time getting on the road. Hopefully, the major traffic and bustle of the city with behave itself so we're not late.
We finally arrive at the airport, twenty minutes after twelve. Veronica can merely contain her excitement as we stand in the airport, waiting for her brother.
"Woah! Is that my little sister?!" A very tall and muscular male with deep brown eyes, approaches us and Veronica squeals, jumping into his arms, causing him to drop his suitcase.
"It's me! The one and only!" She smiles up at her brother and I smile too, knowing how happy she is.
"You dyed your hair!" I notice an accent forming as Vince talks to Veronica.
"Yes! Do you like it?" She asks, grinning even more.
"Love it!" He smiles as big as her and then his eyes land on me.
"Who is this?" He extends his hand and I do the same. He raises my hand to his lips and places a quaint kiss firmly on top.
"This is my roommate and current best friend, Chloe. Chloe this is Vince." Veronica speaks up. He stares at me for a moment before releasing my hand.
"Bel fiore," he speaks softly, his eyes never leaving mine. My mouth opens slightly and Veronica punches him in the arm.
"Don't be hitting on her already! Damn," Veronica sighs, brushing the hair out of her eyes.
"What does that mean?" I ask him and he smiles sweetly.
"It means, beautiful flower," he winks at me and I can feel my heart racing.
This is going to be an eventful time for the three of us.
