"Ethan, say something. You've been staring at the table for five minutes. You didn't answer my question." Colton breaks me out of my thoughts and I look at him, quite confused.
"You want to marry her? Colton you're twenty one. Why do you wanna marry her so early?" I ask him bluntly.
"It's not so early," Colton scoffs, mocking my words. "I am in love with her and I don't wanna be with anyone else, first of all. Secondly, I don't want any other man to love her, touch her, or to be with her in any other way than just being friends. She's my happiness, man."
"So why are you coming to me with this?" I don't mean to sound harsh I just think it's too soon to marry right now. While in your twenties, you're still figuring life out and you're still figuring out who you are and I just don't want something to go wrong for them.
"You've known her for a really long time. I know you guys have a history but you're like a brother to her now. I guess I just kind of want your acceptance I guess." Colton looks away, embarrassed I guess.
"Colton, you're a grown ass man. You can do anything you please with your life. If Evi is the one for you then don't let her go, bro. Go for it. I'm not going to stop you." I reassure him and his face lights up instantly.
"Thank you, Ethan. It means a lot to me."
"Yeah, whatever." I speak jokingly. He gives me a half smirk and punches my arm, waking up Marie in the process.
"Hey! Be careful! She's fragile," I pout and Colton rolls his eyes.
"You're more of a pussy than the cat is."
"Whatever." I brush off his insult. "How and when are you going to propose?"
"I was thinking about when we all go on that trip to Chloe's roommates cabin. It'll probably be snowing up there and it would be romantic for me to propose to her there. I'd make it unforgettable."
"And you call me the pussy." I scoff. "But yeah. That's a good idea. She'll like it."
"Don't tell Chloe because I don't want her to ruin the surprise. I want everyone to be in shock when I propose."
"Alright. I won't tell her. Do you have a ring yet?" I ask him and he frowns.
"About that," he mumbles. "I was kind of hoping you would come with me. I'm not exactly sure what kind of price range to be looking for and I have no idea what kind she might like."
"Ugh, fine. I'll come. Let me get some towels for Marie and make a spot for her to sleep first." I grab some paper towels and place them in several places all over the dorm so she'll have options.
"Man, I thought you were whipped by Chloe but that cat has her beat." Colton chuckles and I flip him the bird as I wrap a blanket around Marie and sit her on my pillow.
"Yeah yeah. Keep making jokes." I roll my eyes and walk out the door before he can say anything more. We get in my truck and go to the closest jewelry store.
"Hello, how can I help you gentlemen?" A tall man approaches us at the door and walks behind the counter.
"We're looking for a ring," I speak up and the man gasps, holding his hand over his heart.
"You two are a beautiful couple!" He squeals and my eyes get wide.
"What? No! We're not together!" I exclaim.
"The ring is for my girlfriend!" Colton speaks up. "Besides, Ethan isn't even my type." Colton chuckles and I scoff before shoving my elbow into his side.
