Queasy, part 2 - 01/02/16

"And, so what, we're just gonna keep sustaining, babysitting them? If they're no good, why don't we just let them die?"

Blue sighed. "I don't know, Rodie. I don't have all the answers for you."

Rodie's glance fell to the little bits of sushi rice left on their plate. "Sorry, I didn't mean... I'm just wondering, you know?"

He nodded, some strands of hair lazily drifting over his forehead. "I understand that. The thing is, barely anyone on Ashikie has questioned it. Or, you know, questioned it out loud. But you..." He chuckled and his eyes flitted back and forth as he looked over them. "You're a special one, aren't you?"

"You've known that since the day we met, goofball." Rodie smiled reluctantly, their mind in a flurry trying to organize thoughts and theories about Earth. "I'm, uh... I'm feeling a little queasy, is it okay if I just... head home?"

"Of course, queen, of course." He gathered the trash onto the trays and stood up, carefully balancing everything on one hand. "I'll pay."

They also stood, hurriedly. "No, no, I was gonna pay for my own-"

"I got it," he muttered. "Don't worry about it." He smiled softly at Rodie. "You paid last time."

"Because you paid the time before," they huffed.

"Go on home, get some rest. I fully expect to see you at the gala tomorrow." His hands swept the trash into the bins, swept the bills onto the counter, swept his hair back, swept away Rodie's resolve.

"All right, fine. I'm going now. Thanks for being my friend."

They walked out the door as Blue called back, "And thanks for being mine!"

They breathed in the fresh air outside but tried not to look too happy. They did just say they were queasy, after all. They slumped their shoulders, put their hands in their pockets, and started the short walk to their apartment. Hopefully the neighbors wouldn't be having another party tonight. Rodie had some cargo ship schedules to look up.

Look at all this writing I'd planned in my head yesterday but didn't write down!!! At least I ended at a finished sentence.

Enjoy the attached drawing of Rodie! There's no color, so you can't exactly see how she's not human, but that's of no matter for now. More pics later. :)
