Teacher's Pet, Part III - 01/26/16

"Research?? You've got to be kidding me. You're the research person, and I'm the one who helps you when you're complicating things, remember?" Rodie shook their head and took two apples out of the bag.

"Okay, I'm complicating things right now. I've been trying to look for little hints of activity, but I realized it's so much simpler than that. I mean, look at you."

"What about me?" they asked, pushing a bowl of mac 'n' cheese to the Doctor.

"You're an Ashikiean. Hiding in plain sight, with your color corrector and foundation and contacts."

"So you're saying the other Ashikiean would be hiding in plain sight, too."

"Yes." The Doctor took a bite of his apple and stared intently at the white flesh. "I have to wonder what their skin tone is like."

"If they're here to escape Ashikie, they might be like me."

"But if they're here to do something to Earth, they may not be." He put the apple down and reached for the book again, about to open it, but seemed to decide otherwise. "I'm willing to bet they'll be darker-skinned, trying to change something down here for whatever personal reason. I don't really know."

"So... darker skin?"

The Doctor shook his head. "It's not for certain whatsoever. Maybe, like, a seventy-six percent chance."

"I'll keep that in mind. Now eat your macaroni. It's good, I promise."

They pushed the bowl and spoon closer to him, who reluctantly scooped up a small mouthful. "You sure this doesn't have gluten in it?"

"Positive." They grabbed some for themselves and smiled as they chewed. "Come on."

The pasta made its way into his mouth, and the Doctor swallowed and blinked. "Okay. Okay, I can roll with this."
