:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Agent (st/n) growled as she walked down the halls. Not only had she been knocked down a rank on the board, but she wasn't allowed to go on the next mission because of her temper. She'd disobeyed Carolina's order and North got shot because of it. She didn't work well with others, she couldn't let herself get close to people for fear of losing them. She walked into the empty locker room and threw her (f/c) and (s/c) helmet at the window that allowed them to see their ranks. Her's currently said:

4 \ AGENT (ST/N) \ ACTIVE

She sat down on the bench with her head in her hands. Her (h/l) (h/c) hair covered her gloved fingers as she let tears fall. She hated that she slipped up for one selfish act, and her only friend was injured because of it. She hated that she never seemed to be able work with a team. She hated this feeling, the feeling of being completely and utterly, alone.

(St/n) let the guilt and sadness flood her. Letting it's ache overflow her mind and her body. She wondered if the team would be better off without her. Would they? Probably, her and her stupid hot head getting people injured and even killed in conflict was never good for the team.

Maine leaned up against the lockers, he was still in his armor and she hadn't seen him when she walked in. He was there when it happened. He heard the guilt and pain in her voice as she cried out when she had turned just in time to watch as North fell backward, the blood blossoming out of the hole in his kelvar suit. Maine watched her silently cry.

Yes, he knew that (St/n) was well aware of the fact that she was the reason that North got shot in the first place. Though he wasn't so sure that she knew she'd also saved North's life with her quick thinking. If she hadn't rushed over to help North and used her knife to puncture a hole in between his ribs into the side of his lungs, they would have filled up with his own blood and North would have drowned.

He walked up behind (St/n) and placed a hand on her shoulder. She stiffened and turned to look at whoever it was that was in the room with her. She was was shocked to see it was Maine. "You saved his life." She furrowed her brows together, confused as to why he would say that. "W-what?" "If you hadn't punctured his lungs with your knife he would have drowned in his own blood." "R-really?" (St/n) asked, truly shocked. She hardly even remembered what happened. She turned her back to the floor and blinked trying to remember what happened after the shock and adrenaline hit her.

Flashback

"NO! NORTH!" (St/n) sprinted over to her fallen friend. She dropped to her knees next to him. She could hear him coughing and choking inside his helmet. Pulling his helmet off quickly, it allowed him to pull in more air she removed his chest plate and tossed it aside. Digging her longest and thinnest knife out of her armor, she searched for a space in between his lower ribs.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!??" South shouted over the heavy fire they were under. "IF WE DON'T GET THE BLOOD OUT OF HIS LUNGS HE'LL DROWN!" (St/n) shouted back as she made a quick puncture wound in each of his lungs.

Once she did that, North gasped, thankful for the air now filling his lungs. (St/n) radioed in 479er. "WE NEED EVAC NOW WE HAVE INJURED AND ARE TAKING HEAVY FIRE." "Copy that (St/n). Where is your location?" "We're west of the black smoke and south of the Indigo Co. Skyscraper. Basically, look for the spot with the most gunfire." "On my way. 479er out."

Flashback over

(St/n) blinked, she did save his life. Standing up, she turned around and hugged Maine fiercely. He was taken aback by this, he'd always had a thing for Agent (St/n). Maine was unsure of what to do, so he just sorta awkwardly patted her back. After a couple seconds she pulled away and grabbed her helmet. Wiping away anymore tears, she smiled at him. "Thank you."

Maine couldn't believe it, this was the first time anyone had ever seen her smile, or thank someone for that matter. Even North hadn't seen this, and she was his best friend. Maine sort of nodded his head. "So, can we go see him yet?" "He just got out of surgery an hour ago so yes, we can visit him." "Great!" She grabbed Maine's hand and pulled him along with her.

Walking into the medbay, she pulled Maine into the room with her. The other freelancers were already there surrounding North's bed. They turned to see (St/n) and Maine walk into the room hand in hand. This was shocking, even if the (f/c) and (s/c) freelancer was pretty much just dragging him along with her.

North sat up lightly to see what was going on. He smiled, he was the only person who knew about (St/n)'s crush on Maine. She refused to call it that, saying she merely found him the slightest bit attractive, what with his flying raven tattoos and scars. Yes, she was a creeper and enjoyed watching him as he removed his armor in the locker room. Everyone knew that Maine liked her though, the guys constantly gave him shit about it. York, Wash, and Wyoming teased him every time she walked in the room.

North chuckled at this sight and leaned back in his hospital bed when the two approached him. "Hey (St/n)." "Thank god you're okay!" She smiled. There was a simultaneous gasp from everyone in the room. Her smile was dazzling. North froze, his mouth slightly open. "So how long are the doctors keeping you here?" Snapping out of his initial shock, North answered. "I should be out in three weeks..."

(St/n)'s face fell, she still felt guilty. "Hey, you saved my life... You know that right?" Her dazzling smile was back. "Yeah, Maine told me... I was, well, feeling really guilty...." South was going to scoff at her, but North shot her a look. He knew (St/n) had been crying, the girl was hard on herself.

After visiting hours were over, (St/n) and Maine removed their helmets, and followed behind the rest heading to the mess hall for dinner. Maine wasn't sure whether or not she knew she still had her hand in his. Not that he was complaining, just very confused and slightly hopeful. Once the others were out of view, (St/n) tugged him to a stop.

Standing on her tip toes, she pecked Maine on the lips. "Just in case you don't make it back from the mission tomorrow, I wanted you to have that... since I won't be going with." (St/n) was about to let go of his hand and turn away when Maine dropped his helmet and tugged her harshly against him. He pressed his lips against hers softly, kissing her deeply. Maine felt one of her arms wrap around his shoulder, he could feel the other press against his upper abdomen. He used one hand to hold her waist against him and in the other, he gently held her cheek.

When they finally broke apart, Maine pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I-I've always liked you Maine..." "And I you." Maine was enjoying her closeness. He couldn't help but imagine just how much better it would be without armor, or clothes. (St/n)'s smile was back, but this time it was teasing and lustful. "Wanna skip dinner?" "Yep." Was all Maine said before he pulled her the other direction towards his room. She laughed lightly behind him. (St/n) felt so much better, maybe, just maybe she could let her walls down around Maine. Then maybe she could finally feel not so alone.
