As I stood waiting for a taxi outside the airport I noticed New York was nothing like Georgia. It was a place were extraordinary buildings pierced the sky. I looked up the turquoise sky, as brilliantly blue as any other day. Crowded streets surrounded every skyscraper. It seemed like everyone was in a hurry to get somewhere. The loud and constant sound of cars honking was heard throughout the entire car ride. In Georgia a bike, a car or even walking was perfectly suitable for getting from one place to another. Here everywhere I looked, there were people calling taxis
Everywhere you looked, there were people trying to get a taxi of their, waiting on bus stops, rushing to get to the underground subway stations or desperately trying to find a way to move their own cars through the hectic streets. This was all so different from where I came from. I wasn't one to enjoy change, actually I hated it. It just gave me bad vibes, but I was doing this for my dad, and to do something different for my life.
I was moving to a simple apartment I had found on Internet with my mom. We even asked Tyler before renting it. He went to check it out and send us some picture of the insides and we were immediately in love with the place. It wasn't anything over the top, it had a small dining room just besides the kitchen, a lovely simple living room and in the end there was a decent bedroom with a bathroom and a small closet inside. It also had three small windows with an amazing view to the city.
There were cardboard boxes everywhere. Tyler had made sure everything had come safely. He was supposed to come later in the afternoon to check everything was fine. I haven't seen him since he left Georgia the last time when dad's incident happened.
I sat at the end of the bed taking each of the boxes unpacking them and trying to find a place to each of the stuff that was inside. No matter how messy it got, there was no Mom to tell me to tidy up, get my laundry done, or organize my room.
I have to admit it was scary at first. You know, leaving all behind. Everything I ever knew was left behind in Georgia, but I find New York as a new ride, a new track life wants to take me and if life gives you opportunities such as it did to me, you better take them. I still miss my mom; I promised I would call her every week, twice if I could.
The phone ran knocking me out of my thinking.
"Hello Ms. Montclaire?"
I had just moved about half an hour ago and I was already receiving calls from people I didn't even know but apparently knew me.
"I was just calling you to inform you that your job starts tomorrow morning at ten o'clock." A woman's sweet voice sounded across the phone with a very businesslike and professional tone.
"Oh thank you." I said smiling lightly. You see, my dear father owned a couple of companies around the world, yet the first one ever to be opened officially was the one in New York City. He started back home in Atlanta but he soon started to expand the companies name creating other enterprises around the world, New York being the most outstanding. The companies name was Concrete enterprises.
When he died his best colleague Julian Strain took over, with my bother as second hand in every company. Tyler once explained how although Julian had a kind of higher business position in the company than him, dad had given Tyler enough rights to make him as much as important, need and owner of every company as Julian. Making Julian the CEO and my dear brother the COO.
So there was where I was heading. I was going to work as the Marketing Manager. This wasn't my first choice though. I had a perfect job back home in Georgia just as the one I was about to start here in New York. It paid really well and the working hours were terrific, but when my dad died I guess everything changed. I wanted to find a way to feel closer to him, so when Tyler mentioned there was an open spot here in New York as the Marketing Manager I didn't think twice before asking for a job interview.
