***Ben’s POV***
Someone was roughly shaking me. I groaned and forced my eyes open. Ali glared down at me and I slowly sat up. “Wha?” I mumbled, my head pounding.
She shook her head in disgust as I clutched my head. “You told me you weren’t going to drink or smoke anymore!” she said desperately. I looked up at her and sighed. “I got lost in the moment, alright?” She glared again. “That’s not an excuse Benjamin!”
“Point is, I got drunk. It happened, I can’t change it, it’s over,” I snapped. Why the hell are girls so annoying? Especially pregnant ones?
Ali clenched her fists. “Ben, it’ll happen again! I know you!” I angrily gestured to her large stomach. “Obviously you know me!” She blushed a little but continued to glare. It suddenly faltered and she sat down next to me on my bed.
“Why are you still doing it Ben? You got away from your mom.” I shrugged. “Habits. Habits I’ve had since I was 11.” She stared at me. “You drank when you were 11? Where the hell did you get alcohol from?” “I had sources,” I said defensively, thinking back to sneaking some of my mom’s drinks when she wasn’t home.
She sighed. “You’re addicted to it all, aren’t you? They’re not just stress relief. They’re addictions. Drinking, smoking…” She grabbed my arm and shoved my sleeve up. “Cutting.”
I yanked my arm away and pulled my sleeve down. “You had two new cuts,” she said quietly, avoiding my eyes. I shrugged again. “None of your business.” She shook her head. “It is my business. Mine and the twins.”
She ran a hand through her hair. “I don’t want the twins to pick up on bad habits like that. And you should think more. Jeydyn really looks up to you. You’re setting an awful example for her.”
I remained quiet. I knew I was setting a bad example for Jeydyn. She was a six year old girl whose brother had awful addictions to things that could get him killed sometime.
But I just couldn’t give them up. That was the thing about addictions. You were addicted. You don’t just wake up one day and say “Hey! I think I’ll just stop smoking.” Nope. It took time. Time I didn’t have the patience for.
“It’s not hurting anyone,” I said at last. Her eyes widened. “Not hurting anyone? Are you a fucking idiot? First of all, it’s destroying you. Second, it hurts your sister. Third, it hurts the twins. Second hand smoke could give them birth defects Ben.”
I felt pissed. “So stay away when I smoke!” I snapped. “Try to quit smoking!” she hissed, her eyes furious. “I can’t!” “You mean you won’t!” “It’s an addiction!” “You can get help!” “You can get out!”
She glared in hate and disgust. “You are such a fuck up Benjamin Jarvis!” she cried. I grabbed her and threw her onto my bed. “Shut up!” I screamed. I raised my hand to smack her. Smack her mouth right off her damn face.
Ali covered her face and trembled. “B-Ben s-stop,” she whimpered. I glared and yanked her so that she was sitting. I slapped her and pointed at my door, shaking furiously. “GET OUT!” I roared.
Tears entered her eyes and she got up and hurried out of my room.
I slammed my door and went back to sleep.
***Ali’s POV***
I ran out of Ben’s house and could tell I was about to cry. I pulled out my cell phone and called Pez. “Pez, come pick me up,” I whimpered. “What’s wrong? Where are you?” he cried. “Ben’s house.” “I’ll be right there.”
He hung up and a few minutes later, came in his car. “What did he do to you?” he demanded, coming over to me and leading me into the car. “He slapped me,” I whispered and broke down into tears. I knew Ben had anger issues. That’s why he got in so many fights. But I never thought it was that bad.
“Ali, it’s okay. I’ll kick his ass,” Pez promised. I shook my head. “No! Don’t hurt him!” I begged. “I made him mad!” Pez pulled into our driveway and glared at me. “Ali, he has no right to hit you. I’m going to tear his ass off and shove it down his fucking throat until he’s dead.”
“Pez, please don’t,” I whispered. Pez suddenly smirked. “Alright Ali. I won’t kick his ass on one condition.” “Which is?” I asked nervously.
“You won’t be with him.”
My eyes widened. “Pez! I’m pregnant with his children!” I cried. “That doesn’t mean you have to be with him,” Pez said with a shrug. I bit my lip but Pez had a point.
Ben was dangerous.
Being with him…it was putting the twins and I in danger. He hurt Jeydyn. He had hurt the person in the world he loved most. So why wouldn’t he hurt his own kids? Or me?
“Okay,” I whispered. Pez held out his pinky and I took it in my own. I got out of the car and went upstairs. I had to keep the twins and myself safe. I had to keep Ben away, no matter how much I wanted him back. I had to stay away from him. I knew in my mind who I needed to be with.
I picked up my cell phone and called Jersey.
