***Ben’s POV***

I was walking through my neighborhood on the way to my house. “Hey emo fag.” I spun around and glared at Marissa. She was the second biggest prep in our school and the number one bitch.

She had her hands on her hips and a cocky grin on her face. I had had sex with her last year and she’d had a false pregnancy alarm. Man. What was up with me and knocking chicks up?

“What do you want bitch?” I asked in annoyance. Jeydyn was going to be home soon and I had to get her off the bus and into her room safely.

“I heard you knocked Ali up.”

Shit. How had she heard that?! She would tell the whole school and word would get back to my mom. “Where the hell did you hear that?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. She chuckled. “I heard them talking about it today. Her and her weird friends.”

My fists clenched as I glared at her. “Is she going to get an abortion too?” That stopped me. “W-What?” I asked, my anger deflating. She laughed and flipped her hair. “Oh, did I forget to tell you that last year?”

I wanted to scream and call he names. To break her sorry nose. But I couldn’t because Jeydyn’s bus passed at that moment. Shit. I had to get home. She grinned cruelly at me. “You heartless whore,” I hissed before turning and sprinting off towards my house.

I threw my Hot Topic bag in a bush where no one would see it and ran inside the house. Jeydyn must have already gone inside. Shit, shit, shit. This was so not good.

“YOU DIRTY BITCH!”

I skidded into the living room. Jeydyn was sobbing as mom smacked her around. “I’ll kill you!” mom screamed. She grabbed Jeydyn by the hair and threw her. Jeydyn sobbed harder. I ran and jumped in front of her. “You bastard,” mom slurred.

She grabbed me and began to hit me. I pushed emotion out of my eyes and let her hit me. She had to get it out on someone and she sure as hell wasn’t taking it out on my little sister.

“I’ll break your arm again,” she growled and grabbed my arm. She had broken it when I was 13 for defending Jeydyn. She began to twist it like she had that day. Jeydyn’s eyes widened as she realized what mom was doing. “No!” she cried. Mom kicked her and twisted my arm more.

Jeydyn shrieked.

Mom kicked her and she sobbed again as mom began to hit me again. My front door was thrown open. “Stop! Stop hitting him!” Jeydyn cried.

“Ben! Mrs. Jarvis!” Hanley cried. He and his girlfriend Lisa were standing there. Mom and I looked up at them. Mom threw me to the ground, kicked me, and spit on my. She screamed at me before leaving the house.

I apologized to them as Lisa brought Jeydyn over to me. They shouldn’t have seen that. Hanley told me I should go to the hospital. But I just growled at him. They would find out I was being hit and separate Jeydyn and I. That wasn’t happening.

“Bye Hanley,” I said dismissively, checking Jeydyn’s wounds. “And take princess of the pink with you.” That bitch was friends with Marissa. “Why are you being so mean lately?” she demanded.

I ignored her and turned to Hanley.

“Abortion,” I said silently.

“Ben,” he whispered in horror. “I know! Get out of my house!” I snapped. They left and I carried Jeydyn upstairs.

“Benny, what’s wrong?” she asked. I sighed. “Promise you won’t tell?” She nodded and wrapped her arms around my neck. She kissed my cheek and laid her head on my shoulder. “I don’t like it when you’re sad.”

I sat down on my bed with her. She laid on my pillow and looked up at me with dad’s eyes. She was so adorable. I began to gently rub her back. “Well, I messed up,” I whispered. I needed to get this off my chest. I brought my problems to Jeydyn. It just felt nice to tell them to someone, even if she couldn’t completely comprehend them.

“What did you do Benny?” she asked. I gulped. “I got a girl pregnant.” “What does that mean?” she asked, innocence dripping off her voice. I sighed. “It means she’s going to have a baby.” She gave me a curious look. “Why’s that bad?”

I sighed. “Because we’re too young to have that happen Jeydyn.” “Oh,” she said even though I knew she didn’t really understand. I hugged her to me and kissed her forehead.

Ali.

What was I going to do? I had conflicted feelings on this. It’s not that I completely wanted to leave her. It was just, well, I didn’t know what to do.

If I helped Ali raise the baby, that meant I was abandoning Jeydyn to my mom. My mom would wreck the poor kid’s life. I wasn’t going to let that happen. But if I didn’t help her raise the baby than I was no better than my father.

Abandoning my helpless child into an unknown fate without a father. I had a feeling Ali wasn’t abusive like my mom. But still. The pain of not having a dad was unbearable.

I would rather die than be like my father. Abandoning his own children. My eyes slid down to my slit wrists. Scars claimed up and down my arms.

I dropped my face into my hands. I had just fucked up 4 lives. My life, Ali’s life, the unborn child’s life, and Jeydyn’s life. No matter what I chose, someone got hurt. I couldn’t abandon my baby sister.

She was watching me with curious eyes. “Benny? It’ll be okay,” she whispered. I shook my head. “I don’t think it will be,” I said silently. “Can I meet your friend?” she asked. I bit my lip. “Do you want to?” She nodded. Jeydyn was usually scared of people. Afraid they would beat her for saying or doing the wrong thing.

I shrugged. “Yea, I’ll bring her home after school tomorrow.” Maybe Ali could help me. Maybe we could work something out. I kissed Jeydyn’s forehead lovingly and she smiled at me. “I love you Benny!” “I love Jeydyn,” I said. She was the only person in the world I truly loved.

But maybe I could give Ali a chance.
