Dauntless Blood

Three

I sat there with my parents, Brayden and Ryn. This day had come too soon, the Choosing Ceremony.

I fidgeted in my seat, the Erudite dream had been replaying in my head since the test.

After more names are called, I await my fate.

"Cadence Lee Harrison," Jeanine shouts.

I stand up, then I make my way towards the front of the room, but Brayden stops me and hands me something.

"It'll keep you safe," he whispers, then I look at what he handed me.

It was a necklace on a small leather strip. The charm was the symbol for insight.

I kiss the top of  Brayden's head before I resume walking.

I stand before the five bowls, thinking over the five choices.

Dauntless, Amity, Abnegation.

I take the knife in my right hand, then I gently cut into my left hand.

I debate over the three and I walk to the Dauntless bowl.

God forgive me, I think as I let my blood drip into the bowl.

"Dauntless," Jeanine says, and the Dauntless faction cheers.

I join them after a person from Erudite hands me a gauze pad.

I press it over the cut, pride and relief flooding my veins.

"Eryn Night," Jeanine calls.

I watch Ryn walk down, her frizzy hair still in a ponytail. I also watch her as she does the same thing I did.

"Dauntless," Jeanine says after Ryn lets her blood drip in the dauntless bowl.

I grin as Ryn walks over to stand with me.

Once everyone chose their new faction everyone from Dauntless takes off running.

I'm so glad I chose jeans over the dress my mom picked, I think as Ryn and I join them.

"Hey, Abnegation," a familiar voice says.

I glance to my left to see a guy with white hair and the same color eyes as me.

I nod to Aiden, then all the Dauntless members begin climbing.

~Time Skip~

Dauntless and Transfers stood on top of a building, one of the leaders saying something.

That's when I get a thought.

As soon as Aiden and the guy he introduces as Eric finish talking, Aiden asks for someone to jump over the ledge.

Without hesitation I take off running, ignoring the complaints as I step on some toes, then within three feet of the ledge, I jump and fall through the hole.

I land in a safety net, hundreds of Dauntless born staring at me.

Another guy helps me out of the net, then he asks me, "What's your name?".

"Cadence," I say, looking him straight in the eyes, then I add, "I go by Cade though.".

When I notice Eryx, he shouts, "First jumper, Cade!".

The members cheer, I blush.

Soon all the transfers have jumped and been congratulated on becoming Dauntless, then we're shown to the room that girls and guys will share.

I only change my top, then I slip Brayden's necklace over my head.

Ryn takes the bed beside mine and quickly changes her top as well.

"Hey, Abnegation," I hear someone sneer.

I ignore them and begin braiding my hair in a side braid.

"Hey, Stiff," I hear the same person sneer.

I whip my head around, locking eyes with a young guy with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"What the hell did you call me, Erudite trash," I hiss.

I heard some 'burns', 'oohs' and 'aahs'.

This guy was going down!
