Twenty Three

I thought my heart was going to leap into my throat at what Eric said. Tears started to fall from my eyes and my shoulders began to shake. I felt my dad's eyes on me, then I looked up at Eric, nervous.

I felt Eric's hands on the side of my face, then I heard another knock on the door. I squeal and hide my face in Eric's chest, worried it was Aiden at the door.

I felt my dad's hand on my back as Eric wrapped his arms around me.

"She's okay," Dad called to the other side of the door.

"Can I come in," Mom's voice answered.

I look up at Eric and Dad, then I nod before I go back to hiding my face.

"Cade said you can, Dove," Dad said.

I felt Eric's breathing catch, his arms tensing. I look up at him again to see fear in his eyes.

I watch Dad open the door for Mom, then I heard a whine come from Eric's chest.

Mom smiled at me, then she turned her attention to Eric. I bit my lip when I felt shivers go down his spine. Mom walked in and Dad shut the door behind her.

"So," Mom began, her icy blue eye trained on Eric, "you're the one who got my daughter pregnant.".

I heard Eric gulp, then he hid his face with my hair.

"Eric, it's okay," I whispered in his ear, "They won't hurt you.".

"You're parents are Dragon and Dove. They're two of the best Dauntless leaders that had ever been around. Both were Dauntless born," Eric whispers softly.

Wait, Mom and Dad are Dauntless Born, I think to myself.

I kept reassuring Eric that he was okay and managed to calm him down enough. I kissed his cheek and nuzzled his chest.

I smiled as Eric, Mom and Dad spoke to each other, only shivering once or twice due to being cold. That's when a thought crossed my mind.

Eric wants to marry me.
