(Y/N) was just settling in for bed after a very happy day. Her mother kept Gabe off of her back and in line. He was actually somewhat tolerable when her mom was around.
She made a very nice dinner for her daughter, which consisted of (Y/N)'s favorite meal. (Y/N) was rather pleased with the turn out of her eating, nearly half of a plate, and all of it stayed down. Gabe didn't even say anything when he noticed the food that was still on her plate.
(Y/N) smiled to herself, recounting her day. How she and her mother caught up on all the old shows they liked to watched and how her mom painted her fingernails instead of bringing her to a nail salon just because she knew how uncomfortable those made (Y/N) feel. As she painted, the two girls talked about nearly everything in the universe.
From school to boys — or in (Y/N)'s case, turtles and Percy — to anything else they could think of to discuss. (Y/N) contemplated telling her mother that Raphael and the others weren't exactly humans, but decided against it. It wasn't her secret to tell, besides she didn't want to risk losing the first real friends she had in a while.
When (Y/N) almost drifted off to sleep, there was a knock on the door that lead to the balcony. She looked over curiously, but didn't feel brave enough to get out of bed. Nor did she have the motivation to.
But, when the person knocked louder and longer for the second time, she realized that it wasn't wise to stay where she was. She mustered up all the courage she could, and got out of bed. She tried to push aside the terrifying thoughts of the Foot or that Rahzar character being outside her door.
When she peeked behind the curtains, she saw Raph standing there, letting out a heavy sigh of relief. She opened the door, confusion written all over her features.
As soon as the gap was wide enough for Raph to fit through, he rushed in and gave her a hug. (Y/N) reluctantly hugged back, her cheeks dusted with a light pink. As quickly as the hug happened though, it was over.
Raphael began asking questions much too quickly for (Y/N)'s liking. "What happened? Why weren't you at school? I — we, we were all worried. Are you okay.
She had questions of her own. She wondered why Raph came all this way just to check up on her. Maybe something happened and the Foot became stronger. Was she in danger? Was she jeopardizing her mothers life by being there? A million questions raced around her mind so quickly, and she felt terrible for not being able to answer Raph's questions. She began to feel a bit overwhelmed and took a seat on her bed.
Raph seemed to notice she wasn't at her best and stopped his endless stream of questions. He sighed and sat at the foot of her bed.
"I'm just glad you're okay." He admitted. "I thought maybe they got you. April said you haven't been to school a lot... So... We just kinda figured – I don't know."
"I-I haven't been to school because my mom's here." (Y/N) said quietly. "She's not home often, but when she is, I feel... A lot happier." She smiled a little.
Raph looked at her with his piercing green eyes. (Y/N) began to grow uncomfortable under his gaze and looked the other way. Raphael cleared his throat.
"Well, it's she makes you happy. Everyone likes it when you're happy."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Raph nodded.
(Y/N)'s lips curled into a small grin. Soon, though, it fell off her face.
"What is it?" Asked Raphael.
"April and Casey. They probably hate me, don't they?"
"What? No." He said quickly.
"Are you sure? I... I just left them. I felt so bad."
"Hey, don't. It's okay, they get it."
"Okay." She said softly.
They kept eye contact much longer than any other time before. (Y/N) found herself getting lost in his eyes, those brilliant green eyes. She felt like she could just look into them and she'd be okay.
Suddenly, Raph cleared his throat once again, making (Y/N) jump.
"I should probably get back. Sensei doesn't know I'm here." Raphael explained as he stood.
"You snuck out?" (Y/N) asked, her (e/c) eyes widening in shock.
"Look, we were worried, okay?Someone had to. And Mikey was too much of a chicken."
"Oh." The fact that Raphael only came because no one else would made her feel a little worse than before, but she still managed a smile. "Thank you for checking on me, Raph."
"What?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck. "It's no problem. It's what friends are for."
Her smile grew. Friends. She liked the sound of that. Just as she had a few days before, she gave him a sudden hug.
Raph hugged back like she did when he walked into her room.
"I'm glad we're friends." She said quietly. She stepped away and locked eyes with him again. Just looking at them made her blush.
"Me too." Raphael nodded. "I-I'll see you later, (Y/N). 'Night."
"Goodnight."
With their goodbyes exchanged, Raphael hopped off the balcony and into the night.
(Y/N) crawled back into bed and under the warm covers. She found herself hoping more than anything, that Raphael made it home okay.
And that he wouldn't get in trouble because of her.
