Chapter Twenty Three

(Y/N) didn't want this to happen. Even though there was nothing she could possibly do, she started forward. Raph grabbed her wrist before she could run in the way, though.

"We have to go." He said.

"No!" Her wide eyes followed her mother's every move.

She was dodging and blocking all the punches Shredder threw at her. Even though he had on his shining armor, she didn't hesitate to punch him with all her might. With every hit, Shredder staggered back, but it only seemed to anger him.

Finally, he had enough and grabbed her mom's wrist and twisted it back. She yelled in pain, but still kicked Shredder in the back of his leg, making him lose balance just long enough for her to wrench her wrist free kick him again straight in the chest. Shredder went flying back.

(Y/N)'s mom looked behind her with a glint in her eyes that (Y/N) hadn't ever seen before. "Get out of here, all of you!"

Leo glanced at (Y/N), then back at her mom. "We can help you."

"No, this between us." She said as Shredder struggled to get back to his feet. He ran towards him, but her mom jumped up and kicked him hard in the jaw. She looked back at him and rubbed her wrist. "I'll be out in a minute or two."

"Why won't you let us help you?" (Y/N) demanded with tears finally spilling over.

She looked back, and for a moment, her eyes softened, but then she seemed to remember what she was doing. "It's personal."

"Because he kidnapped me? I don't know if you realize, mom, but I didn't like not knowing where I was either!" (Y/N) didn't know where it was coming from, it was like before when she felt the wave of confidence with Gabe.

"No, (Y/N), it's different, Shredder, he—"

"Look out!" Warned Mikey.

In a flash, her mother moved out of the way. Shredder turned on his heel and swung his arm but she leaped back.

"Just get out of here!"

(Y/N) wanted to protest, but Raph must've known what she was thinking, because he picked her up and draped her over his shoulder.

"No, Raph! Stop!" She yelled, wiggling around with tears in her eyes. She didn't want to leave her mom. She was the only real family (Y/N) had left.

Raph didn't listen to her though, and he kept moving until he was to the window. He followed his brothers to the roof where he finally put her down.

Immediately she walked backwards, glaring at him angrily. "Why'd you take me? Why won't you help?"

"It's not our fight." Said Leo.

"She's my mother!" She yelled at him.

"She knows what she's doing."

"That doesn't—"

"She'll be fine, alright?" Said Raph, a tad bit harsh.

(Y/N) froze and looked at him, and finally, she started crying for real. The tears were both relief and anger, mixed with sadness and fear. She was feeling too much all at once, and she didn't like it one bit.

"It'll be okay, man." Mikey gave her shoulder a very comforting pat.

"Yeah, she's dealt with this before." Said Donnie. "As far as we know."

"As far as you know?" (Y/N) repeated.

"Your mom's a kunoichi, (Y/N)." Informed Leo. "You don't have to worry about her, she's been trained for this."
