(Y/N) really didn't want to be home anymore. As soon as she walked inside the apartment, she smelled the cigars. She knew her stepdad, Gabe Ugliano, was having one of his infamous poker parties. If he saw her, he'd probably ask her for money she didn't have so he could blow it all in his stupid game.
Either that or a beer.
She tried to sneak her way past the kitchen, but it was no use. Gabe saw her almost immediately.
"It's about time you got home." He said.
A small "sorry" came from her lips as she tried to get to her room.
"Come say hi. Don't be rude, (Y/N)."
She slowly walked into the kitchen. His buddies looked at her expectantly as she just stood there.
"Did you bring me money?" Asked Gabe.
"No."
"No, sir."
"No, sir."
"Then what good is your job for if you can't even contribute?"
Suddenly, she had felt a wave of confidence wash over her. She looked him right in the eye. "I contribute all the time, sir, that's why I don't have any money to give you."
"Are you getting smart with me, missy?"
"No, sir. I have the same amount of intelligence as I did yesterday morning."
One of his friends snickered.
"What did you say to me?" He started to stand.
"Did I stutter?"
Gabe began walking towards her. That's when she knew she made a mistake.
She looked down, her wave of confidence now a lousy ripple. "I'm sorry."
Just when she thought he was going to hit her, he spoke up. "Get me a beer and take a shower. You smell like a sewer."
(Y/N) nodded and grabbed a beer bottle out of the fridge and sat it on the table. She then hurried as quickly as possible to get into her room.
What did her mom see in that guy?
He was married before to this one lady, Sally Jackson, but she ended up leaving him and marrying this Paul Blofis guy. The only reason (Y/N) knew this was because they lived right down the hall, and it's hard to not hear the whispers of the apartment's other inhabitants.
She let out a sigh as she lay down on her bed. One thing was for sure, she couldn't wait for her mom to get home. She never let Gabe push her or (Y/N) around. Easily, she could put him in his place.
(Y/N) wasn't exactly sure why, but she wanted to be back with the turtles. Sure, they were kinda scary at first, but after spending a night with them, and being walked home by the scariest one - in her opinion, that is - she realized that they weren't bad. They wanted to help her.
They knew the Foot Clan were waiting outside her apartment, which she was just now beginning to question. How did they know where she lived? And what would the Foot Clan want from her?
It was only then that she learned about their existence, so she couldn't have done something to make them upset, could she? Whatever it was, she felt bad for dragging the turtles into her mess of a life.
"I don't hear any water running!" Gabe yelled from the other room.
(Y/N) let out a sigh and walked into her bathroom. After turning on the water, she got in. All she did for a while was just sit on the floor of the tub with her knees pulled close to her chest as she let the warm water hit her back.
She missed her mom. She missed her dad. (Y/N) missed her real family.
After a while, (Y/N) was all cleaned up, and hopefully free of the sewer smell. She slipped on a long sleeved shirt and a pair of shorts before climbing into bed.
Raphael was right, (Y/N) did want to rest.
Within a matter of minutes, she had fallen into a dreamless sleep.
•~•~•~•~•~•
She woke to an unfamiliar sound.
(Y/N) didn't really get a good chance to tell what it was. It seemed as soon as she regained her senses, the noise stopped.
Quickly, she dismissed it as her imagination.
She could tell that it was night time, now, her room was less bright and the apartment much quieter. Gabe was probably asleep after a tiring poker game. He was probably broke, too.
(Y/N) glanced over at her clock. 11:31. She had slept the whole day away. She was glad that she was off that day, if she would've missed work she would've felt terrible.
She stared up at her ceiling, enjoying the quiet and darkness.
Then she heard the noise again.
It sounded like tapping, and it was coming from her window. She would've let it pass as a tree branch or something scraping against her window, but it happened again, more like knocking this time.
She wasn't sure if she should pull back the curtains. What if it was the Foot Clan? She had no clue what they were, but they seemed scary, and she didn't want them in her apartment.
More knocks rang out through her quiet bedroom, sounding urgent.
Letting her curiosity get the best of her, she peeked through the curtains. She caught a glimpse of Raphael leaning against a chair out on the terrace.
She relaxed a bit and pulled the curtains all the way back and slid the door open. All four of the turtles stood there.
Donnie was the one knocking.
"You're okay!" He grabbed her and pulled her into a hug, catching (Y/N) by surprise.
She stood as stiff as a board as Donnie pulled away from the hug. "We thought something happened."
"Why did you think that?" She questioned.
"You took so long to answer. And the Foot soldiers were so close."
"I told you she was fine." Raphael said.
"Mikey insisted on dropping by to check on you before we went back home." Said Leo. "I'm glad we did, if we hadn't, you might've been in real danger."
"Oh. Thank you."
"(Y/N), would you mind coming back to the lair with us?" Donnie asked.
"It'll be way safer there." Added Mikey.
"What about-"
"Your dad's passed out at the kitchen table." Raphael said. "I don't think he'll care."
"Um..." It was only Saturday, so she wouldn't have to worry about school the next morning. Besides, she had missed them earlier - as strange as it sounded - so, she could go. "I'll go."
