As the final bell rang, Sam threw his books in the air and whooped. The rest of the 7th period class cheered with him. Winter break at LAST!
Fern had a "stomach ache" and was chilling out in the nurse's office (She hated 7th period English). So Sam left his classroom and made a beeline for the nurse's office.
"Wait."
A feathery voice called out to him, and he stopped. He turned around.
Maya stood behind him, with tears in her eyes.

"Maya?" Sam asked. He hadn't talked to her once in the last 4 months.
"I need to talk to you."
"I have nothing to say to you." Sam turned around and began walking in the other direction.
"Please, Sam," she begged. "Give me two minutes."
Sam stopped. He could hear her crying. He hated when people were sad.
"Fine."
"Let's go outside," Maya suggested.
