A week after the "union" and into winter break, Fern booted up her computer to check her Google+. Where she lived, everyone had given up on Facebook and switched to Google+, and it was the new THING.
As the computer slowly switched on, a little reminder bounced onto the screen.
"Fern! Check to see if your period started!"
Fern had a knack with computers and had set up a monthly reminder for her period because she sometimes forgot and it surprised her at school or something. Which was NOT cool.
Fern trudged to her bathroom and checked her underwear.
Nothing.
Fern's eyes widened. She had never been late a day in her life. What had happened?
Uh-oh.
With shaking legs, she tiptoed to her mom's bathroom (her parents were at work) and dug around in her cabinet. After about 10 minutes, she found a dusty old pregnancy test and followed the instructions.
Suddenly, it beeped.
Fern checked the tiny screen.
