After dinner, everyone's sleeping bags were laid all over the floor of the family room. It was 11:55 PM.

"Mom, me and Fern just want to go up to her room and hang for a while. You guys can sleep," Sam said. By "hang", he meant "make out."

"Fine," Jane said, not very happy but unable to refuse when her son was asking so sweetly.

Maya was watching Fern who was watching Sam. Look at those goo-goo eyes. It was so gross how whenever Fern looked at Sam, there was so much love and happiness in her face...but when Sam looked at Fern, Maya couldn't tell what was on his face. She knew what she'd said that day on the bleachers was true. Sam was confused.

And Maya wanted him. Bad.

"Fern," she called. "Can I speak to you outside?"

Fern frowned. What did Princess Gargoyle want know? "Okay."

Maya skipped out to the balcony. Fern grabbed a can of pepper spray and looked at Sam, who was shooting her a What-The-Hell look. She shrugged.

When both girls were out on the balcony, Maya said, "So you quit smoking?"

"I'm in no hurry to have another heart attack, thank you very much," Fern said coldly.

Maya turned around and smiled like an angel. "Just for now, can we talk as normal cousins and not as enemies?"

Fern didn't answer.

"Fern, do you still have your v-card?" Maya asked.

"What the hell is..."

Maya rolled her eyes. "Your virginity. Do you still have it?"

She saw the fierce blush that spread across Fern's cheeks and smiled. Gotcha.

"Have you and Sam talked about...?"

"No way. Teen sex is stupid," Fern snapped. "Who wants to accidentally get pregnant at age 14?"

"This is the age," Maya hissed, "To have sex. If you do it now, it's more fun than if you do it later."

"You would know," Fern grumbled.

"I don't. I still have the v-card, like you and Sam." She sighed unhappily. God, she wanted sex. With Sam.

"So, think about it. It would really bring you and Sam closer." Maya smiled and walked back into the house.

She'd planted the seed. Now she just had to let it grow.
