PART 7A

Manik is in the car thinking about
Nandini.
'god... This is so not right... We had such
a good time... She is finally opening up to
me... Finally... She started to trust me...
And now you can't just take that away
from her from me...no way... No way I'm
not gonna let that happen...how can you
be so heartless...she's so young she
already lost her mom in a young age...and
now you are giving her this pain...you
can't hurt her...I'll not let her break
again...you have to Make her dad
alright...' Fighting with his own thoughts
he didn't even realized that he
unknowingly was praying for her and her
dad's well being.
He reached the hospital and after parking
the car he went inside. After getting the
information he went to the emergency
room. When he came to the corridor of
emergency area the first person he looked
for is Nandini. His eyes stopped searching
when it came To a still looking at her.
They all were sitting at the end of the
corridor. He got surprised looking at her.
She was in the same dress which she wore
for the Date with a dupatta kind of thing
wrapped around her. Her hair is in
disheveled state. She looks so devastated.
Amms and chachi was sitting beside her.
Mahinder and Rishab were sitting on the
opposite side of her. He wanted to take
her in his arms and show her that he is
here for her to protect her.. Support her in
every step of her life. But he controlled
himself. He could feel from this far that
her posture is moving in a way that shows
she is crying.
Mahinder was the one who saw Manik
standing there. He got up from his chair
and just said
" Manik beta" in a very slow voice
Which was heard by Nandini. She turned
her head and looked at him. As if she is
just waiting for him. Without saying any
word she stood up and ran to him with jet
speed and hugged him tight clinging on to
him... Putting her hands around his neck.
Not even realizing nth at her dupatta is
fallen. For a second Manik was off
balance but controlled from fall... Her feet
left the ground. Manik took her in his
embrace lifting her off the ground holding
her tight. He felt relieved taking her in his
arms.
" Nandini... Sambhalo apne aap ko main
hoon na... Papa theek ho jaayenge... ". He
is trying to calm her. She was crying very
hard on his shoulder... making ihis shirt
wet. He can feel her heartbeat so close to
him. Holding her waist with his left
hand... He start caressing her hair with
his right hand and soothing the pain out of
her. Every member of her family is
watching them and thought that the only
person who can handle her is Manik.
She didn't say anything. She just felt that
now she can release some of her pain as
he's here. Manik felt that her grip on his
shoulder got loosening and her body wait
is also lightening. She stopped crying. He
was happy that she is getting relaxed. But
the very next moment she was swinging in
his arms like a motionless doll.
"Nandini... Nandini... Utho...
Doctor...Doctor..." Manik starts shouting
for the Doctor suddenly getting panicked.
Mahinder also came to her and asked.
" nandu...beta nandu... Isse Kya hogaya...
Abhi you theek thi..." He got worried.
Manik lift her in his hands and took her in
one of the emergency room. And put her
on the bed.
A young man dressed casually with a
Doctor's lab coat and a stethoscope
around his neck enter the room and
asked
"Kya hua uncle... Nandu behosh kaise ho
gayi" he took out his stethoscope and
start examining her. Manik looked at this
man and was thinking who can this be who
is referring Nandini as Nandu.
" I think because of the exhaustion she got
fainted... Waise bhi she is such a delicate
doll... Itna stress kaise handle karegi. "
the Doctor said.
" don't worry uncle... She needs some
sleep and some rest... She'll be
fine...stress ki wajah se faint hui hai. " he
added.
Manik was standing by her side watching
her with a very concerned look.
The Doctor turned towards Manik.
" you..." He asked him.
"I'm Manik... Manik Malhotra... Nandini's
fianc..." Manik replied.
"Oh...so you are her fianc...
Congratulations... Sorry I couldn't attend
your engagement... I was out of town for a
conference.." He said forwarding his hand
to him for a shake. Manik shook his hand
still confused.
"Manik bete... This is Abhi... Dr
Abhimanyu Takkar... Bhaiya's Doctor...
And Navya's cousins... And he is a good
friend of Nandini."
Mahinder introduced Abhi to Manik.
"Nice to meet you Doctor Abhimanyu."
Manik said still shaking his hands.
"Call me Abhi..." Abhimanyu said.
"Nandini... How is she...usse kab tak hosh
aayega ." Manik asked in worried tone
looking at her.
" don't worry... Woh theek hai... It will be
good if she sleeps for a while Coz she
needs rest. " replies Abhimanyu looking at
his concern.
" waise Doc I wanted to ask you about
papa... I mean Nandini's papa... How's he
doing. " Manik asked.
"I don't know if you are aware of it or not
but...He was diagnosed with brain tumor
A year back... We did a radiation therapy
for him... Which worked...and I also
discussed his case with my seniors. They
advised me to talk to one of the leading
neurologist in London. I contacted him
and After giving him all the details... He
Recommended some new medications. And
it started working also... But I don't know
what happened... We are waiting for the
reports..." Abhi tries to explain
everything.
"We'll know what made him unconscious...
I'm hoping that there's nothing serious...
Coz uncle is a very strong person... His
body responded to the new medicine..." He
continued.
"I'll check on him again and see if he's
regaining his consciousness or not... I'll
be right back..." After saying he was about
to leave when Manik stopped him again..
" Is it ok if I stay with Nandini.." He
asked...
" yeah sure... She'll be fine don't worry...
Just make sure she gets proper rest..."
Abhi said before leaving.
Mahinder came near Manik and put a hand
on his shoulder.
" Manik... Are you alright "he asked.
" yes chachaji... I'm fine...I'm just a little
worried for her ". Manik replied.
"Fikar mutt karo...woh theek ho
jaayegi...bhiaya se bahut attached hai issi
wajah se unko takleef mein Nahi dekh
paati...don't worry..." He rubbed on his
shoulder and said. Than he left him with
Nandini and left.
Manik pulled a stool near Nandini's bed
and sat on it. He took her right hand and
held in both of his hands putting his
elbows on the bed...taking her hand close
to his mouth and brushed his lips on the
back of it. He was just looking at her...
Admiring her beautiful and innocent face.
It was getting difficult for him to see her
in this state.
A small tear drop form at the corner of his
eye. He wiped it off.
' Manik you have to be strong for
her...when she wake up she should see
your fresh face...relax...' Manik thought.
He took a deep,breath and calming himself
down. He stood like that for not knowing
how long staring at her... Suddenly he felt
movement in her hands. And she turned
her head and sit up straight with a jerk
and screamed...
"Papa..."
Manik got up and sitting on the bed next
to her...he hold her putting his hand on
her shoulder..
" Nandini...sweetheart...relax...
calm down... Papa theek hain...Doctors
hai unke paas...main hoon na sab theek ho
jaayega..." Manik was soothing her by
rubbing her shoulders gently...he slowly
pulls her a little close and put her head on
his shoulder. Holding her firmly he start
caressing her face to make her sleep.
Nandini was still in an unconscious state
not knowing where she is...what she is
doing... Putting all her weight on him
letting all the pain at ease... She again
drifted into sleep. Manik carefully laid
back a little with the help of the pillow at
the back of the bed... Still in sitting
position. Nandini's head was resting on his
chest and her hands were resting on both
his sides. Manik hold her very securely not
letting her go. He looked at the wall
clock... It's quarter to 5. He didn't know
when he went to sleep.
Manik's slumber was disturbed with his
phone vibrating in his pant pocket. He
opens his eyes. Saw that Nandini is still
sleeping like a baby in his arms. He smiled
and gave a sweet peck on her head and
put her on the bed carefully without
disturbing her sleep covered her with the
blanket and took out his phone. It was
Nyonika. He checked the time is 6:30 am.
He came out of the room and went in the
corner to call her back.
M-- hello
Ny-- Manik where r u... Tum raat Bhar
ghar nahin aaye. Asked In a concerning
tone.
M-- mom I'm in the city hospital.
Ny-- why what happened.., are you ok.
She cut him off before he finishes.
M-- mom relax relax. Meri puri baat pehle
suniye. And he narrated the whole thing.
Ny-- ok we'll come soon. You don't worry.
M--mom I need a favor from you.
Ny-- haan bolo Meri Jaan.
M-- woh actually... He said something to
his mom
Ny-- ok don't worry... I'll do that.
Nyonika smiled and cut the phone.
Manik looked in Nandini's room... She was
still sleeping. He came out and checked on
others. Only Rishab and chacha was
sitting there. Rishab was sitting with his
head leaning on the back of the chair
closing his eyes. Manik went close to
them. Right at that moment Abhi Came
and said
" uncle... It's a good news... Murthy uncle
ke saare reports normal aaye and his
tumor is also suppressing...
Now the question is why did he faint. " he
was trying to figure out the reason.
" it can be two things either he forgot to
take his medicine or he is exerting
himself... Because in his case he can't
skip a single doze of medicine anytime.
And he needs complete rest. " Abhi tried to
explain.
"Coz agar if hi miss his medicine the
tumor can build again... He needs proper
diet and rest...main yeh isliye Bol raha
hoon... Tumor brain ke uss part mein hain
ki hum surgery Nahi kar sakte...either we
can do radiation therapies or control it
through medicine...You guys need to be
careful regarding his health." Abhimanyu
tries explained them Narendra's health
conditions.
" coz if he don't takes care than I'm afraid
to say that it will build again"
He conclude with this statement.
"When will you discharge him" Manik
asked.
"Depends if he regain his
consciousness...then we'll keep him
understand observation for 24 hours...if
everything is fine then we'll discharge
him...maybe tomorrow morning.."
Abhimanyu said putting his hand on his
shoulder seeing Manik's concern.
A nurse came out of Narendra's room and
said.
"Sir patient Ko hosh aagaya hai. "
" aap log yahin wait kariye... I'll check
him. " Abhimanyu went inside the room.
Abhimanyu examine him and checked all
the vitals and his records since last 4 to 5
hours and got a little relieved...but
showing a fake anger he said
" Uncle aapne laparwahi kardi na apni
health Ko lekar... I know Ki Nandu ki
shaadi ki preparations chal rahi hai...but
you know you can't take any risk...if you
be this careless than I will not let you
leave the hospital. " Abhimanyu said in
one go.
"I'm sorry beta...I know I was a little
careless...yesterday I forgot to take
medicine..
But it won't happen again...bas mujhe
hospital mein Nahi Rehna..." He took a
deep breath and continue, being very tired
" I want to enjoy Nandini's wedding and all
the rituals to the fullest..." He paused
again and "waise woh hai Kahan...kal main
uske saamne hi..."Narendra left the
sentence in the middle.
" she is right here in the hospital...she
was very tired so I make her sleep for a
while...as soon as she wakes up I'll send
her..." Abhimanyu hides that she was
fainted.
" now you take rest... I'll send some food
for you... And your son in law is here..to
meet you. I'll send him in too..."
Abhimanyu came out and told Manik and
that he can meet him. And he also told him
that he didn't told narendra about
Nandini's condition. Manik entered and
went near him and stand beside his bed.
" how r you feeling papa..." He asked very
softly.
" arey main...main bilkul theek
hoon...mujhe Kya hona hai...yesterday I
forgot to take the medicine so this
happened...nothing serious. " Narendra
said taking it easy and trying to be cool...
"You scared every body..." Manik said
"Yahan Aao mere paas baiytho " Narendra
ask him to come near him.
Manik pulls a stool and sat by the bed.
"Nandini kaisi hai" narendra asked.
" she is fine... Sleeping in the next room ".
Manik turned his face here and there to
avoid eye contact.
" you know son... I know woh mujhe aise
condition mein nahi dekh sakti...she can't
handle it... After her mother is gone I am
everthing to her... Maine usse maa aur
baap Dono banke paala hai..."
He took a pause " but now I'm tired and
week... Thankfully Aiyyappa has send you
for her...and I'm sure you'll become her
biggest supporter. She's very emotional...
Choti choti baaton se darr jaati hai...
Bahut bholi and Bahut seedhi hai...uska
khayal Rakhna... Will you take care of
her..." He asked Manik to promise him for
Nandini's well being.
Manik hold his hands and said
" papa aapne mujhe apna beta kaha hai...
So trust me I'll not break your trust... I'll
always takes care of her...Hamesha. And
waise bhi aap honge naa hamare saath...
Hum Aapko kuch nahi gone denge". Manik
assured him of the security for Nandini.
Nyonika and Vikram were standing at the
door and listening to the whole
conversation.
" Murthy... Yeh Kya yaar... If you want to
take rest... Tujhe aaraam hi karna tha to
you would have told me ... I would have
make some other preparation for you...
Hospital ka bed hi mila tha..." Vikram
enters the room and tries to make the
atmosphere a little light.
"How are you feeling now bhaisahab. "
Nyonika also enters and ask him.
" Arey kuch nahi Bhabi yeh log khamakha
hi pareshan ho rahe hain." Replied
Narendra.
" Ab fatafat se theek ho ke ghar aaja...
Hume bachon ke saare rituals badi dhoom
dhaam se karne hai" Vikram added.
"Aap log baatien Kariye I'll meet Nandini ".
Nyonika told them before she leaves.
" Mom wait I'll come too. "
Manik also followed her. Coming out of
the room. Manik looked at Nyonika and
asked.
" Mom did you bring what I asked." Manik
ask.
" ya but where is she. Is she ok."
Nyonika asked getting a little concerned.
" Woh actually she got fainted because of
the exhaustion... So Doctor made her
sleep. She is in this room. " he pointed.
" Manik... ". Nyonika stopped him from
entering her room. He turned and gave a
questioning look.
"Are you ok. " she asked.
" ya mom I'm fine. " he hide his face
turning away from her.
"You can hide your face from everyone but
not from me... I know you are worried for
her... It's normal...but she needs you in
this situation... So you have to be strong
for her... And for that... You have to take
care of yourself too "
Nyonika put her hand on his shoulder and
turned him to face her.
" go get fresh and bring coffee for all of
us... I brought breakfast for her. Main
Nandini ke paas baithti hoon... Waise bhi I
don't think she is awake. " Nyonika very
lovingly told him.
Manik quickly gone to wash his face and
went to the hospital cafeteria to get coffee
and he came back to the emergency room
to see Nandini as fast as he could. Seeing
him back so soon Nyonika couldn't stop
her smile looking at him.
" What... Why are you smiling."
He asked her.
" Nothing... I'm just watching my son how
he's becoming responsible day by day.
"Nyonika started teasing him when he
entered the room.
"Mom main shuru se hi responsible hoon.
Aapne kabhi notice nahi kiya"
Manik said hiding his embarrassment.
" waise ek baat bataun... I never thought
that mere bete ko itni jaldi pyaar ho
jaayega. " she gave a pat on his head.
"Mom what are you talking about... This is
care and concern... Pyaar... Wyaar aisa
kuch nahi hai..." Manik is trying very hard
to hide his blush looking away.
" Acha so you don't love her..haan"
" Maine aisa toh nahi kaha..." Suddenly
Manik said and thought what he just said.
"Pakde Gaye na... Anyway I'm happy for
you. Always be like this happy... Ab Tum
yahan baitho I'll go and see her father.
"Nyonika said and left from there.
Manik sat on the stool beside her and
starts caressing her forehead with his
hand. Nandini moved and slowly opened
her eyes. She tries to sit up and her
blanket fell off of her shoulders. She
looked at herself and her surroundings and
than her gaze fell on Manik who is
standing by her as she wakes up. She
recollected every thing that happened since
she came back from her Date and her
father's unconsciousness and than how
she saw Manik and she went to hug her.
After that she don't remember what
happen. When she thought about the hug
she couldn't able to make eye contact with
him. She was getting uncomfortable
feeling his gaze on her.
"Papa... Papa Kahan hai... Woh kaise
hain... Mujhe unke paas jaana hai.."
She was about to get off the bed. But
Manik stopped her.
" Wait wait wait... Pehle yeh batao how
are you feeling now..." He asked.
"I'm fine just little weakness... Main yahan
kaise aayi... What time is it... Since how
long I'm in this condition. " she became
conscious of her state and put her hands
on her shoulder trying an unsuccessful
attempt to cover it.
Manik understand how she's feeling and
said
"Wo... Wo... Wo itne saare sawaal ek
saath.. Thoda saans to lelo... Tum faint
ho gayi thi... Toh main tumhe utha ke
yahan laya... And Doctors says that you
have to get some sleep so we all let you
sleep so that you'll be fresh. And the time
isss... Probably around 8 or 8:30 am. " he
paused
" and papa is fine there's nothing serious
about him... Unhe hosh aagaya hai... He's
waiting to see you... But Tum aise toh
nahi jaasakti naa unke paas."
Manik pointed at her condition.
She again tries to cover herself with her
hands.
" tumhe mujh se sharmane ki zaroorath
nahi hai." Manik said very softly. " mom
brought clothes for you... Go and change
and get fresh. Than eat some thing and
than you can go and meet him."
Manik said trying to make her
comfortable.
" But I want to meet him right now"
She started to get up from the bed.
Manik came in front of her. She stopped
right there. He sat in front of her on the
bed... And took her face in his hands and
said
" Listen... papa is very weak right now and
woh tumhe dekhna chahte hain... If you go
like this in front of him... He'll get worried
and I don't think you should worry him
more knowing his condition." He smiled a
little and continue
" so get fresh and make yourself
presentable than we'll go together to meet
him." He said very calmly.
" you knew about him... That he has..."
She left the sentence in the middle looking
at him...and tears started to form in her
eyes ready to fall
" ssshhh...sshh... No more crying..." He
wiped it off by his thumbs.
" main hoon na... We'll handle everything
together... Hmmm..." He put Har hair
strand behind her ears and started to
caress her face and head. She moved
forward and put her head on his right
shoulder. Manik got surprised by her
sudden reaction but next second he took
her in his embrace putting his hands
around her shoulders and start rubbing her
back.
He thought
'Right now she needs my support she
might be feeling lonely... Any body can be
at this situation... Me being Manik
Malhotra I can't imagine my life without
my parents... So her... She is so fragile
and delicate... I'll be there for her.'
He is thinking about all this and said
" Nandini...sab theek ho jaayega... Tum
bilkul fikar mat karo"
She moved from him putting her face down
and thought
' Aiyyappa he is so concerned for me...
But main Kya karun I didn't know what I
was doing... I was very much worried
about papa last night and suddenly I saw
him...and I felt that he is my last hope
and ran to him... Aiyyappa I don't know
what he thought of me...'
She got off the bed with his help and
walked to the washroom...
" Nandini " Manik called her from the back
" Wear this ". He forwarded a bag to her.
'He takes care of everything... He saw me
uncomfortable and before anyone realizes
he arranged clothes for me... Aiyyappa
how should I even thank him for so many
things.'she thought again.
" you change and I will wait for you here.
" He said.
After a while Nandini came out of the
washroom wearing a white and green short
sleeves shalwar kameez with the matching
dupatta. She tied her hair in a simple plain
braid without the support of any scrunchy
or hair clip coz she didn't have any. Manik
noticed her face is looking clean and pure
without any makeup or anything on it. He
smiled looking at her her.
"Kya hua...kuch laga hai Kya..." She
asked him very innocently seeing him
smiling.
Manik walk to her and she stood still in
her place
"I like your hair open... But Aaj you are
excused... next time I won't excuse you"
He said very softly..
"Let's eat first and than we'll go and see
papa" saying this he took out some
wrapped sandwiches paas one to her and
one for himself. She settled herself on the
bed and he on the stool. All the while they
didn't talk just looked at each other give
smiles. After finishing off their breakfast
and coffee they went to Narendra's room.
Nyonika and vikram were already there. As
soon as Nandini entered the room she ran
to Narendra and hugged him tight and
started crying. Narendra also hugged her
back and started consoling her. Making
her calm down.
"Papa aapko Kya hogaya tha... Aap apna
khayaal bilkul Nahi rakhte na...aap mere
ache waale papa Nahi hai... Pata hai... I
got so scared when I saw you..." She
started ranting non stop...and sobbing like
little kid
" Arey... Arey... Bas...bas... Thoda saans
tou lele... You are my strong beta
na...aise kaise darr Gaya... See I'm
perfectly fine...mujhe kuch nahin hua...it
was just weakness that's all..." Narendra
said rubbing her back.
" Dekho Nyonika Bhabi and vikram Kya
sonchenge ki meri beti kitni weak
hai...that she cries on small things..."
Narendra said looking at them who were
admiring her love for her father.
She turned around and felt a little shy and
moved away from her father and adjusting
herself she went to Nyonika and
"Good morning mom... Good morning dad"
she said.
Nyonika took her in a hug and gave a peck
on her. She went to Vikram he also side
hugged her and put his hands on her head.
Manik smiles.
" Murthy ab hume hamari Beti vida kar
de". Vikram said looking at Nandini.
"Mera bas chale toh main aaj hi iske phere
padhwa doon... But main chahta hoon ki
iski shaadi ki Har rasam dhoom dhaam se
ho..." Narendra said.
" but bhai sab are you sure ki you want to
do the wedding on the coming Sunday...
Aap thoda rest kar lete pehle." Nyonika
added.
'No no mom...what are you doing... Don't
postpone it... I want to make Nandini a
part of my life as soon as possible.' Manik
thought getting panicked.
"Nahi Bhabiji leave everything as it is and
jo fixed hua tha wohi hoga. " Narendra
said.
" aah... Thank god... Nothing changed".
Manik thought getting relieved.
Nandini went and sat very closed to
Narendra and whispered to him.
" mujhe Aapko chodke Kahin nahi jaana. "
"Hahaha shaadi le baad ladkiyan apne pati
ke ghar jaati hai. Main Bahut khush hoon
ki tume Manik jaisa Life-Partner mil raha
hai and Bhabi and Vikram jaise maa baap.
"
Narendra said putting his hand on her
shoulder. She hide her face in his
shoulder.
Abhimanyu entered and said
" uncle all your reports are normal and
everything is fine... But we have to keep u
under observation... So you can
leave tomorrow... Fair enough..,"
" ya ya more than enough...". .Narendra
smiled. " Vikram in se milo yeh hai Doctor
Abhimanyu Thakkar. Bahut ache
neurologist.
"Nice to meet you young man"
They shook hands. Abhimanyu saw
Nandini and said.
"Nandu Tum kab uthi". He asked.
" I just woke up how are you ". She asked.
" sorry yaar main tumhari engagement
mein nahi aapaya... I was out of town for
a conference... But don't worry shaadi
mein dhamaal kar denge.." Abhi said.
" yeh Nandini ka dost bhi hai aur Namratha
ka bhatija bhi hai. "
Narendra said.
Manik phone started buzzing. He excused
himself and came out of the room. It
Cabir. He picked up the phone and befor
he say anything
"Yaar yeh achi baat hai... Shaadi waala
ghar hai aur dulha gaayab... Dulha ke ghar
waale bhi gaayab... Chakkar Kya hai...
Pura Malhotra clan kahN hai. "Cabir
showered him with questions.
" hold your horses dude... Doosron ko bhi
bolne diya kar...me and mom and dad are
in the hospital..." Manik said.
" what... Hospital... Kya hua... Tu theek
hai na... Aur Nandini... Woh theek hai
na..." He again interrupted Manik. Getting
panicked.
"Ek minute ek minute... Pehle puri baat toh
sun liya kar " Manik said and he told
everything to him. "
" main Abhi aata hoon. Wahan ... Mille
baath karte hain". Cabir said.
Manik put the phone on his pocket and
took his hands to his head and pushed his
hair back and took a deep breath.
