It's like a wave.
Seemingly calm and relaxing but with a secret undercurrent and a pull that release you far away from the shore and your safety.
The lull before the grab.
The calm before the storm.
The peace before you release your wrath.
The moment before you explode and everything that you have been bottling up and holding back breaks and spills.
Suddenly it is like an oil spill in the ocean.
Ugly and black and consuming everything in sight.
Lingering for years and years and slowly destroying everything in sight.
***
The oil lay thick over the calm seas.
Birds became stuck and slick.
Fish began to dot the shoreline and the horizon; dead and still.
***
If it could have been avoided I would have tried it.
I didn't want to cause all this pain.
I didn't want to hurt anyone.
I didn't mean to spill over.
I didn't mean to explode.
***
Now the damage will lay for years and years to come.
