Growing up is weird.
So many changes to get used to.
I mean the mental changes are hard.
You have to start to form your own opinions.
Some opinions won't be the same as the majority.
Some will.
But it is your choice to decide whether you want to be the same or not.
Due to peer pressure and other factors, most of us will choose to fit in.
To blend in like a grain of sand on the beach.

There is this girl that I know.
I haven't formally met her but-
I know her name and I have watched her grow up.
More of a visual change.
In Year 6 she has brown hair with bright blonde streaks framing her face.
She had her birthday party and she brought all her giggling friends on the bus.
She was a child.
Now her hair is a vivid pink-red.
She wears thick black eyeliner with long fake eyelashes.
Sometimes I watch her put them on.
In the space of five years I have seen her change.
She is still the same and yet she is different.
She listens to loud rock music on the bus, making me worry about her hearing.
She chose to stand out.
I admire her for that.
Sometimes I wonder if she will stay this fiery-haired girl but I think she will change.
And I won't be there to see it.
