|Angela (Angel)|
I walk into Alex's room to see her opening Skype, webcam already in place atop the monitor. I walk over as she stands from her computer chair, taking her place and logging into my own Skype account. I then glance to my phone and copy down the number I received from Dr. King, adding her to a new video call. As I wait for her to answer, I straighten the red bandana that I had put on after finishing my recording. After a few rings a black screen appears, then it changed and a blonde woman with a long face is on the screen seconds later. She has her hair up in a ponytail and her fingers laced together in front of her on her desk. I guess my video finally showed up on her screen after a few seconds, because her eyes widen before she squints, her gaze hardening.
"Hello," I squeak. "This is my friend Alex," I introduce Alex as she's sat beside me and she waves to the camera. "And this is her dad, Mr. Jameson." He appears behind me and waves as well.
"Hello, everyone. Angela, I don't mean to put you off. It's just, you look exactly as we imagined you would. I have no doubt that when we get test results back, you'll be confirmed to be Angel." My breath hitches.
"What sort of tests, exactly?"
"Well, we'll have to have you come to Australia. Unless of course you'd rather stay home and have your hospital send the results. Since you're of age, it's completely your decision what you do. You don't even have to do any of this, it's completely up to you." I glance at Alex and her dad, already knowing what I want to do. When I think about either way I could handle this, my decision becomes clear.
"If I go back to my mom, or Amy I guess... I'm worried something will happen, she may not let me leave. And this, this family? The Irwins? They deserve to know where their daughter is. That she-I, that I'm healthy and okay. I want to come and have the tests done, if I told my mom she'd never let me go to the hospital. I just know it, she completely freaked out when we told her about taking blood for a science project." I say and Alex agrees from beside me.
"If she won't let you leave the house to go to the hospital then how would you get all the way here?" I purse my lips at her question, a few seconds hadn't even passed before Alex's dad spoke up for me.
"I'll take her to the airport and buy the ticket. She's been like a daughter to me for nearly 13 years, I won't let her in harms way."
"I'll send someone over first, to accompany her on the flight. They'll be on the first flight we can find over." At her words I feel a weight I hadn't realized existed, lift off my shoulders.
"Thank you so much, I've never been on a plane before." I realize what I just said technically may not be true, and it seemed Dr. King realized this as well but chose not to mention it as she nodded.
"Of course, I've gotta make sure my newest patient gets here safe. Though I suppose you're more of a returning patient." I chuckle slightly and nod to her. Mr. Jameson tells her his address before we all say our goodbyes and I end the call.
"What do I tell my mom?" I look to Mr. Jameson, realizing I've cried far too much today when I notice my cheeks are wet again.
"I can tell her you're sleeping when she calls, but I think once your blood work is done we may need to call the police. You should be prepared for that. Do you want me to go get you some clothes?" He asks.
"You can just borrow some of mine, maybe it'll give you some comfort and help you not forget about your best friend while you're gone." Alex says gently. I wrap my arms around her in a hug.
"I'll never forget you, Al. I love you, you're my sister. Remember that." I sniffle and bury my head in her neck as she does the same. Her dad checks his email and tells us that Mrs.King had sent him the flight information for her friend. Alex and I release each other but entwine my right arm and her left as we face him.
"Says two of her kids are coming and you'll need to be ready to get on a plane with them, but they'll wait to buy the tickets until we've confirmed the time. Flight from Australia to here is about 20 hours, that's a long time so they may want to eat when they get here I'm guessing." He explains.
"Looks like you're stuck with us one more day... Irwin." Alex says, followed by an elbow in my side.
"We don't know that yet. And I'm never stuck with you, I chose to be here." I say, adding "Against my better judgement," under my breath.
"I heard that." Alex says with a mock shocked expression. I stick my tongue out at her. Her dad chuckles and shakes his head, turning to go into the hall and downstairs.
"Cmon girls, don't want that pizza getting cold! Tomorrow we'll go out and get Angela a few things so she's not completely empty handed when she lands in Sydney." He says with his voice raising as he descends the stairs, Alex and I following a few steps behind.
"What do you mean Sydney? I thought I'd be going to Hornsby." I ask, confusion written on my face.
"Maybe the family doesn't live in Hornsby? Sydney is a pretty popular place." He replies.
"I guess. I just thought I'd be going to the same hospital I was taken from for the blood work. Though I suppose that assumption doesn't actually make any sense." I bite my bottom lip in thought as Alex's dad starts to dish the pizza out. Am I going to meet my possible family the same day I arrive? Surely they wouldn't want to meet me unless it was really true. My eyes widen with realization.
Will I get to meet my brother tomorrow?
