"They say true love is enough ~forever forever" ~Kelly Rowland

Minah

Lovely and I stayed up for hours just talking about everything under the sun. I hadn't realized how much I missed my little sister until now. I come from a family of six siblings. I am the middle girl and the third oldest. Its three boys and three girls. My mother is a nurse and my father is a hustler turned pastor of Abundant Joy Baptist Church. My family didn't really approve of my life style. Meaning the good pastor and first lady couldn't have one of their daughter's being a lesbian.

The day my mother caught me kissing a girl in the coat closet at church was like the rapture happened for me. She told my father and he went through the roof. "I can't preach the word of God and have my daughter laying down with another girl." He said pacing the floor. "This coming from the same man that once sold crack for a living." I said. My father slapped me across the face so hard I had a instant hand print appear. "Get the hell out of my house." My father said in cold voice that I had never heard him use before. I stood slowly to my feet and walked out with only the clothes on my back. I could hear my mother protesting but she never came after me, so I never looked back.

I was so caught up in the past that I didn't hear a word that Lovely was saying. "Huh! What did you say?" I asked coming back to reality. "I said that Mama been asking about you. She really wants to see you." She said. I couldn't see myself sitting down with my parents after 15 years of not speaking. "Is that so. How has daddy been?" I asked. "Well you know daddy. He is so stuck in his ways that it's unbearable. He just doesn't understand that you can still do the things you love and love the lord." She said. The way she was talking was like she had a situation happen with our father. "What happened between you and daddy?" I asked her.

She blew out air and gave me this look. "When I decided that I wanted to pursue music daddy got very upset. I told him that I didn't want to do gospel music I wanted to do R&B he hit the roof. He told me that I was following down a road of destruction. I told him that he can't keep his from following our dreams because he gave his life to the Lord. Minah I love God and I love daddy but I have my own dreams. I been working with some really good producers here and my music is good. I just want daddy to support me the way a father is post to support his daughter." She said blinking back tears. I knew all to well how she felt. "Well I love you and you know you have my support 100%. I can't wait to hear this music and anything you need I got you." I said giving my sister a big hug.

It hurt me to know that my father hadn't changed not one bit. I think its time for my dad to have a heart to heart with me.
