Was it odd to know that someone could disappear from the earth at any moment in time? Death for everyone was certain and no one knew when it would be exactly.
Tonight was another blessing. She was still alive. She was breathing. She wasn't taken away.
"It's been almost a month since you've been in a coma. I've checked with your teachers. There's not a lot of work in your classes since your classes have been going over some old things mostly. Gemma has been much kinder to me, though I can tell she's in pain but Drew is taking care of her. As for the guys, we haven't talked in a while. I'm sure that Jonathan is still angry and David refuses to talk to anyone out of guilt. Tyler just doesn't want to get involved in all of this silent fighting but I know he's worried too."
Evan took a shaky breathe in, trying not to let tears escape his eyes. He'd been visiting every day. Right after school he'd bring his backpack and do his homework in Evanee's hospital room and talked to her. There was a small chance she'd remember everything he's said if she woke up, but if he heard her, at least he got to talk to her.
"The doctors still say you have a 50/50 chance of surviving and I'm really trying to accept that fact. There's nothing more I want than for you to be here," his hands slowly rose to her face as he softy rubbed her pale skin. Then his hand went to the necklace he had bought her. "You're my Angel. So if you don't come back to me, I understand. Someone as perfect you doesn't belong in a place like this, in a place with me."
"You were always such a sappy piece of shit, you know that?" Evanee said quietly, her voice hoarse from lack of speech.
Then she felt herself being completely enclosed in warmth and she wrapped her arms around Evan's torso.
"When?"
Evanee laughed. "When did I wake up? Earlier today. Gemma and the doctors already knew. They said you'd visit again today and I asked if I could tell you myself. I was about to say something as soon as you got into the room but then you started talking."
He didn't even care that she heard everything. He was just happy that she was alive. That miraculously she was still with him.
"Now, about our friends. What have those little shits gotten into?" Evanee asked smiling.
"That's my girl."
------------------
Word gets around a lot faster than Evanee expected it to. After a few tests, she was permitted to attend school again and by the time she arrived at school, she was bombarded with flowers and balloons.
Some of them were from her friends and some of them were from some people she barely talked to, but she still accepted everything gratefully.
Then he came into sight, standing by the side watching Evanee being surrounded with love. After quickly thanking everyone, she walked towards him.
For a second, David fully expected a well deserved slap to his cheek but was surprised when her frail arms wrapped around him. "Please don't torture yourself over this. I forgive you and all I want from you is to be happy."
"God, how are you so perfect," David said quietly, hugging her back. He missed her and no words could describe how much he did. "I'm really sorry. I don't know why-"
"I understand ya big lug. Now come on."
They walked to their usual table where Evan was sitting alone, like he had usually done in the last month since his other friends weren't exactly talking to him.
His eyes lit up when he saw David. He was mad, emphasis on was. Then he realized the amount of pain he was going through as well and Evan wanted to be there to comfort him, but David had continually pushed him away.
The Irish boy rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm sorry I kissed your girlfriend and I swear it won't ever happen again," he apologized awkwardly.
"It better not," Evan said smiling, standing up and hugging his best friend. He was undeniably happy knowing that he hadn't lost David. They've been friends since forever and he didn't want to lose that.
"Cute. Now where are the other two dumb butts?" Evanee asked, looking around.
As if on cue, Jonathan appeared in her sight looking like someone had just ran over his dog, but then his blue eyes landed on her and the goofiest smile appeared on his face.
"Evanee!"
Before she knew it, she was encompassed in a warm hug.
"Yo, Jonathan. Not to ruin the moment, but that's my girlfriend and I'm pretty sure you've been hugging her for over ten seconds. I've been counting," Evan remarked with a weird laugh following.
"Okay, listen here you little-" Jonathan started obviously still angry at both Evan and David, but he was stopped when he was lightly smacked on the back of his head.
Evanee stood glaring at him. "I've been in a coma for almost a month and I want to spend some quality time with my best friends so sit down and make up."
The raven haired girl wasn't usually violent and demanding, but she had her reasons. She smile seeing Jonathan muttering an apology and screaming as he was tackled with hugs.
Somehow, Tyler had appeared and joined in on the little doggy pile they had formed on the lunch table bench.
"I missed you shitters!" He exclaimed smiling as he laid on top of all three of them, not before quickly giving Evanee a hug.
Jonathan's muffled groans could be heard underneath them. "Get these idiots off of me."
Evanee's backpack accidentally slipped off the table and knocked Tyler over, making the rest of them fall down in fits of laughter and gasps for air.
She hadn't experienced the tension between them herself, but she glad that they made up especially since she thought it was her fault for causing the entire situation.
"Promise me you guys won't act like immature five year olds the next time I'm gone?" Evanee asked, hoping that they'd all stay friends over the years. Even more than friends in her and Evan's sake.
With a chorus of agreements, the five friends jokes around for the rest of the morning before class started. This was a major bump in their friendship, but Evanee knew that they'd be able to overcome a lot of things after this.
