Chapter Thirty Three

"You have to get out of there right now," I order Marilyn on the other line. "Okay?"

"The antidote is cooking," She tells me, breathing heavily.

"No, no, no, no, no," I say quickly. "Jean is on the way. He's coming to you right now - "

"There's eight minutes left."

"You're gonna wait there for eight minutes after what I just told you?"

"I need to get everybody out."

"Listen careful - " 

Beep, beep, beep.

"Marilyn! Marilyn!" I yell into the phone. I can't believe she hung up on me and is going to stay in the Oscorp building. She's going to get herself killed! "Ugh! You mother hubber!"

I swing speedily past buildings towards the Oscorp tower but at this rate, I'm not going to get there in time. I need some type of miracle or something.

As I continue swinging and come to a clearing, I see a row of cranes in the air in my path. I know exactly who it's for.

Thanking God, I gratefully shoot a web at the first yellow crane and pull with all my might. I am thrust into the air, hundreds of feet above the busy new York Street, and then continue onto the second crane, and then so on. 

Soon, see the Oscorp building and Dr. Jean at the very top. I look below at the ground and I also see Marilyn at the entrance. All my worries go away seeing that she's still alive and I swing down to the ground.

"Get in the car," Her dad orders, grabbing her arm.

"No. You don't understand," Marilyn tugs away. "I can stop the lizard!"

"Hold it!" An officer yells. I look around me and there are several SWAT team members pointing guns firmly at me and squating. I don't need this right now. I just need to get the antidote from Marilyn. 

"Jayson!" Marilyn exclaims. She runs away from her dad and towards me.

"Hold your fire!" Her dad yells at his men but it's too late. A bullet surges through my leg, instantly sending pain throughout my leg.

"Ah!" I yell, clutching my leg. The pain just gets worse and more excruciating. Damn! I was so sclose! 

"Jayson!" Marilyn, exclaims, covering her mouth.

"Sorry," The SWAT member that shot me says. 

"Give me..." I start to say. The pain is just a lot. "Antidote."

Marilyn fumbles through her bag and hands me the antidote, her eyes still wide.

"Officer?" I look at Marilyn's dad. He needs to let me do this. He can't do it. He's human... Well I am too but he doesn't have my advantage. 

"Go get him spidey," Marilyn's dad approves. 

Nodding, I start to go but Marilyn grabs my arm. 

"Stay alive for me, okay?" She asks in a hushed voice as she looks into my eyes.

My body grows hot and my heart beat speeds up. 

"I promise," I tell her and then start walking. 

Thanks to the idiot SWAT member, I now have a bad leg that is only going to be slowing my down. But I can't give up. Not now when the life of New York is at stake. I need to save these people. I need ot do this. I can't give up. "Delli's don't give up", that's what my dad used to say to me whenever I'd ask him if his work ever got too hard for him. I miss being able to ask him questions. I miss him and mum, but I'd feel even worse if I don't try to stop Dr. Jean and everyone turns into mutant lizards.
