"Oh, I know who you are, sweet boy." Mom waves her hand. "I've heard so much about you! Marilyn really likes you, y'know." My face heats up and my body grows hot.

"Mom!" I yell. God, I knew this was a bad idea! "I didn't even say that."

I reluctantly glance over at Jayson. His checks are still really red and his hand are in his pockets. But he's looking at me, smiling a shy smile.

"She does?" he asks, smirking at me. Mom turns around and mixes cheese into a saucepan with milk, powder, salt, and butter. I know she's making mac and cheese because it's the only real dish we both know how to make.

"Mhm," she answers, obviously loving every moment of my pain.

"Mom, just-" I try to interject.

"Yesterday, actually, she came over and was telling me about you - again. She was sayin' how you have this messy hair that - " Mom continues.

"I swear to God!" I sigh under my breath. Jayson cracks up laughing now and mom snaps her head at me.

"Don't say that."

"Well, if you hadn't gone far with this I wouldn't have!" I mumble, totally embarrassed. I'm just now figuring out my feelings about Jayson and she has to go ahead and tell him things I only wanted to keep between me and her?

But I'm sure I've made it quite obvious that I like him by now anyways...

I hope he likes me back.

"Marilyn-"

"Let's go, Jayson," I mumble. Grabbing Jayson's free arm, I tug him out of the kitchen and into the living room.

"We barely stayed ten minutes," Jayson whispers to me, a smile on his face as if enjoying my rage.

"Let the boy stay!" Mom yells from the kitchen. "Are you running away from me? Are you embarrassed of me, Marilyn?"

I let go of Jayson and look up at him. He's so tall.

"You can stay but I'm sure as hell not." With that, I turn on my heels and storm towards the door. My mother will definitely be hearing from me later. Jayson is he first boy that I really like. Most of the other boys I didn't bring home, to dad's or mom's. Some of which I didn't even tell them I was dating because I knew they wouldn't approve. I knew I could do better.

I'm unlocking the door when mom comes from the kitchen with small, white plate of mac and cheese.

"Here, Jayson." She smiles at him, ignoring me. Jayson looks at me one last time before moving closer to my mom reluctantly. "Eat up while it's hot."

"Looks and smells delicious...Ms. Daniels, thank you," Jayson says, ever the gentleman.

Digging into my pocket, I pull out the 5 gum I was going to eat during fourth block today but forgot to and pop it into my mouth, letting the wrapper fall to the ground.

Jayson and my mom sit on the couch and eat while talking.

Finally calm, I walk over to them and sit on the couch next to Jayson, not wanting to get anywhere near mom now.

"I knew you wouldn't go...somehow." Jayson turns around and smirks at me. I roll my eyes playfully and pinch his cute cheek.

"So you moved to Marilyn's school," mom states when Jayson turns back around.

"Right," Jayson answers, scooping food into his mouth.

"And do you like it so far?"

"Well...yeah," he answers, thoughtfully. "I have friends, not a lot but I have enough. And I have Marilyn."
